Where all this will end who knows? I do know that the Dow has about crashed and for the administration to throw money around may not be the most prudent thing to do. Even tho I totally disagree with Obama and his politics he is doing something and the old saying comes to mind, "Shi- or get off the pot!"

Now if he would only agree to a debate with Rush! Confused

Tecnically a hospital using acid to a burn victims wounds would also be "doing something".

Peter Schiff who predicted the crisis called it adding fuel to the fire.

I disagree with everything the BO stands for but, and please believe I am not defending him, something needs to be done. If I had the answers I would run for office. But then again once they did a background check - - Shocked

Now that I think about it I am not so sure a complete, competent, and thorough NACLC was done on the BO. Rolling Eyes

It is sad that America has lower standards for its president than lower level Federal employees. Even some "low end" jobs at least require a drug test.

I would have rather had Joe the Plumber over Obama or McCain because he was much less socialist.

To all my Flint brothers and sisters I ask why would anyone want to live in Flint? I do not live there but have visited as I have extended family there. I have offered up my house located elsewhere but they choose to live where that have for the past 40 years. I guess old habits are hard to break.

Hey, 5k isn't so bad, I see on the net houses in Detroit sell for $1,500.00.

As OhNobama said, "you can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig." Will Flint ever return to the glory days of the 50s? I think not and will remain a "pig" forever.

"Go west young man."

How much are those mortgage payments out west? Flint is somewhat "used" to the depravity. If things crash we'll just have to wait and see who does better. Low cost centers like Flint or high cost collapsing markets like out west in California. I'd rather have my house value plummet from 50,000 to 25,000 than $500,000 to $250,000.

Flint has always been a leader. If Flint doesn't ever turn around I'm not sure the rest of the nation will ever turn around either despite Obama's efforts to "stimulate".

We're in a global economy now where low cost centers like India and China are winning and high cost centers like the United States are losing. I've actually looked at real estate in India and China and in some cases Flint is actually cheaper.

If Flint decides to go all out and compete I think things will turn around. Right now I guess our unemployment is a little under 20%. Maybe when we get near 30% our city leaders will be ready to "pull off the gloves".

I own a home in California but am not currently there. Where I am located now U.S. citizens can not own property out right. That said, California is also seeing a depreciation in real estate values. Hey, at least the weather is great and there are jobs abate not many career positions. Jobs at the entry level paying in the $8 - $9 hourly.

Where all this will end who knows? I do know that the Dow has about crashed and for the administration to throw money around may not be the most prudent thing to do. Even tho I totally disagree with Obama and his politics he is doing something and the old saying comes to mind, "Shi- or get off the pot!"

This article goes along with what I have been saying. Obviously Flint and Detroit would not work as retirement communities now but if you get rid of crime and fix schools and legalize home businesses, instead of a downright dangerous place to retire Flint might actually make sense.

Make Detroit/Flint the next retirement community

"I recently wrote about the new average home price in Detroit: a whopping $6,035. I'm skeptical about it being a good investment because of the city's soaring vacancy rates and abysmal long-term outlook. But then I thought about it some more and had an idea: Detroit could be the new Florida.

America's sub-zero savings rate and tanking stock market has left many soon-to-be retirees in grave danger as far as retirement security. What better way to make retirement affordable than to move to a place where homes can be had for a measly $6,000?

I know: Detroit's cold and bleak, but at least they'll be able to afford the heating bill. I hereby propose that as far of the federal stimulus package, the government invest in making Detroit the retirement destination for low-income workers with depleted savings. There are plenty of dilapidated commercial buildings that could be turned into tourist traps and fun activities. There's already enough infrastructure in place to turn Detroit into a cheaper version of Branson.

That seems like a much better option for Detroit than pumping endless taxpayer cash into the auto industry. Displaced autoworkers can get jobs taking care of old people, and Detroit can perform a valuable service to the rest of the country by providing an affordable retirement mecca for people whose 401(k)s have morphed into 201(k)s.

Bottom line: Tanking property values in Detroit with little sign of a turnaround could spell opportunity for public investment for a public good."

On another note
Detroit is becoming the landlord capital of the world
