1. After Consumers got done replacing all the gas lines on the block, it looks like we'll have a tilling & seeding party to repair all the lawns. it's worth it, though, not to have gas meters that freeze in the winter & cut off the heat.
2. A couple months ago, absentee owners had a house near the corner cleaned out 7 all the trash piled at the curb. The city ignored the mess, but today Republic picked it all up. I'm impressed. There's a lot of loose stuff from stray animals ripping open bags, but I'm impressed that Republic picked the trash up.
3. There's a land bank owned house on the block that's collapsing. The roof at the back has completely caved in and the rear wall is partially gone. The inside has 2 feet of trash covering the entire interior and the basement is full of water. We've seen muskrats & a large turtle come out of the sewer and go into the basement through a broken out window. The house is NOT boarded up. When I contacted the land bank, they said they were aware of the condition of the house but had no money to tear it down. How much do those land bank executives make a year?
4. Another house had a fire a while back. The tenants got out OK, but the house is a total loss. The guy that lived there told me the landlord's insurance company paid the city to tear it down. If this is true, I'll venture to bet that the house will be torn down some time in my 4 year old grandson's life - maybe. |
