I saw this in a comment on another web site. It's the best explanation of the term "politician" I've ever seen. Too bad we have so many politicians and so few leaders.
"To be a successful politician you cannot have any core values––you must always maintain “flexibility”. The “ideologues” (who actually believe in something) are most often left behind; so one who wishes to rise up in the ranks of politics must remain open for “compromise”. The really great politicians are those who stand for nothing, but appear to be the champion of everything that is good and the destroyer of everything that is bad.
