FLINT TWP, MI -- The director of the Flint Township Carman-Ainsworth Senior Center has been replaced, but two members of the center's board of directors aren't saying why.

"All I can tell you is she was released by the board because the board decided it was time to move in a different direction," said Jim McClung, vice president of the board.

McClung said Linda Moore, who had served several years as director, was replaced last week by interim director Pam Luna.

Genesee County Office of Senior Services Director Lynn Radzilowski said the county, which funds the senior center, was informed of the change but not involved in the decision to replace the director.

There are no sanctions against the Flint Township Carman Ainsworth Senior Center, which remains in good standing, Radzilowski said.

As a condition of receiving funding from the county's dedicated property tax for senior services, centers are subject to audits and reporting requirements and must have a full-time director.

Neither McClung nor Flint Township Trustee Barb Vert would comment on the decision to replace Moore, whom MLive-The Flint Journal could not immediately reach for comment.

Vert is also a member of the center's board.

Both Flint and Flint Township have allowed thir senior centers to be spun off by private entities. The boards of these new entities may be nice people, but are they experienced in management.

I have been advised that the audit indicated funds are missing in the Flint Township senior center and an investigation is underway There are also allegations of nepotism in the hiring of staff. It should be interesting to see if the allegations hold up and if prosecutions occur. It is never wise to hire your family.
