After a rash of murders, Flint Mayor Don Williamson has been asking for the community to help solve the crimes. He'll pay anyone who turns in the gun that matches the bullets responsible for the deaths.
The $3,000 in reward money would come from the mayor's own wallet. Police say the shooters used high-powered assault weapons and think by finding the guns they'll be able to identify the killers.
This week, dental records confirmed that a body found in a field off Robert T. Longway was Cynthia Miller's son, Timothy Simpson. The 25 year old was the sixth person killed within a week.
If someone turns in a weapon with a match, that person would be able to pocket the money with or without the conviction of a suspect.
By finding the gun, police hope to identify the killer. And authorities say a few of the recent shootings may be related. It's not closure, but Miller says it's a start -- and hopefully a means to an end.
"I'm hoping we get justice, get some answers so they get what they deserve because he didn't deserve this," she said.
Anyone with information about assault weapons that may be tied to recent homicides in Flint should call Flint police or the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
