The City of Flint has been the center of it all originating in 1855 as a fur-trading post it evolved into a lumber community and then produced carriages, before automobiles. Flint became known as the “Vehicle City ” because of carriages, not autos.
Organizers say the events will celebrate not only the past, but bring attention to revitalization efforts. In 2003, the famous Flint arches were re-erected. By next year, the area's first downtown lofts will open.
There will be a variety of events this weekend from Friday through Sunday. Highlights include a parade at 1:00pm Saturday. That starts at city hall. There will be fireworks Saturday night at Atwood Stadium beginning at 8:30pm. On Sunday a Civil War reenactment will take place from 9:00 am to 4:00pm at the pedestrian bridge on Cole Boulevard.
