For the good of the districtSorting out the challenges facing Flint schools
By Josh DeVine
BURTON (WJRT) - (02/10/07)--It's tough talk over the future of Flint schools. Saturday, dozens of parents, activists and candidates shared candid comments on the challenges facing the district, top leaders and students.
They gathered upstairs at Walli's East for a workshop and an inside look at Flint schools.
There is a need to make the Flint school system a system parents want to take their kids to.
"We're aimed at community leaders, block club leaders, parents," said event organizer Terry Bankert.
Those, organizers say, are better equipped to meet challenges.
There has been a lot of change due to recent struggles which is why some at the workshop with run for a seat on the school board. They agree that consistency is necessary.
Voters will fill five seats on the Flint School Board later this year and the race could be a heated one.
Already, more than two dozen people have petitions, intending to run for office.
