Kudos to our competent mayor!!!
Hopes are high. Thursday afternoon, some said more than 100 new jobs could be the start of a big business boom for Mid Michigan.
Two companies -- Oakley Industries and A-Eye Flint -- will build new operations at the Flint/Flint Township Business Park near Bishop International Airport in Flint Township.
But Flint's mayor says the impact will be far reaching. Both companies will work out of brand-new offices to supply parts for General Motor's Flint Truck Assembly.
In all the mayor says it'll mean a nearly $20 million investment in the local economy and the addition of 125 new jobs. The mayor announced the plans at a morning news conference.
Flanked by supporters including Flint Township Supervisor Linda Barber, the mayor talked about it being just the start for growth in Genesee County.
Leaders for the Genesee Regional Chamber of Commerce also talked at length about globalization.
Basically, so many say Mid Michigan has to do something to keep the auto industry here and up and running for years to come.
A lot of people say they think this could be the start of something good, especially for the company's truck line.
The mayor will still need to work with Flint City Council members to iron out tax abatements. The city's planning commission will give the OK on the final site plans.
The mayor said he'd like to see both new places up and running by next summer.

While I think this is something realy good for flint. Let me ask you. Is there any other point in Flint, that could be further from Down Town? Talk about just being inside the city limits. just about 200 feet inside the city. While it is a step in the right diretion. I've love to see something moving into the heart of Flint. |
