FLINT (WJRT) - (04/06/07)--He got the job. Just 18 months in, the Flint School District's superintendent is on his way out.
Dr. Walter Milton says it's all about his family. Moving to Springfield, Ill., will put the Miltons closer to friends and take him away from a controversial run as superintendent in the Flint district.
Board members in Springfield offered Milton the job, citing his experience, his vision and his commitment to education. Springfield is a district of 15,000 students.
By phone Friday, the school board president told us Milton's critics made their opinions known. It did not affect their decision.
The contract offered to Milton is a multi-year deal and will pay at least $220,000. Both sides said the negotiations will continue for several weeks.
Still, the news sparked an emergency board meeting, by phone, in Flint. The School Board president in Springfield said she hopes to have Milton under contract by early August. |
