FLINT -- The number of serious candidates is growing in the race for mayor of Flint.
City Councilman Sheldon Neeley plans to confirm he will run for the city's most powerful office at a news conference Saturday.
And nonprofit director Dale Weighill announced Thursday that he also had turned in his petitions. He is the sixth potential candidate to do so.
Once petitions are turned in the signatures must be verified by the city clerk's office to ensure there are the required 900 valid signatures.
Other candidates who have turned in their petitions so far include incumbent Mayor Don Williamson, Norm Bryant, David Davenport, Tamra Edwards and Neeley.
Twenty people requested petitions. The filing deadline is 4 p.m. Tuesday.
