FLINT -- City leaders waiting for budget money should ask for emergency purchasing money from Flint Mayor Don Williamson while the budget remains in limbo, according to some Flint City Council members.
Nearly all budget items for the 2008 fiscal year were postponed again by the council's finance committee Wednesday evening.
City department representatives present at the meeting were told by some council members to ask for emergency purchasing for time-sensitive items, including roadwork, sewage, and purchasing water meters.
Some council members restated on Wednesday that because they believe the city has no recognizable 2008 budget, they can't pass any budget items.
Williamson administration leaders have said that only parts of the budget, approved by the council on June 4, were vetoed. All items not vetoed went into effect at the start of the fiscal year on July 1, according to the mayor.
Select postponed items will be revisited at the council's special affairs meeting on Monday -- others are postponed for two weeks.
