Unlike the city of Flint apparently Burton's city council believes their mayor should have to follow the charter.

BURTON - City Council members voted Monday to pursue charges of charter violations against Mayor Charles Smiley.
Councilman Jeff Major led the way, proposing a series of resolutions, including asking a special prosecutor to look into pressing criminal charter violation charges against Smiley for giving an employee an unauthorized raise and for awarding an architectural contract to a firm without going through the council.
"(Smiley) must be held accountable," Major said.
Smiley could not be reached for comment.

Although these could be "minor" and/or "petty" charges but it is nice that our neighboring council feels their charter should be followed. Personally I do think Flint could find it beneficial to have a master plan, economic developement plan, crime reduction plan and official police chief. I think it would also be beneficial to either enforce or repeal our dozens or hundreds of city ordinances. |
