It is common in Kerala culture that NRIs tend to invest in residential properties preferably in their native towns or cities well tended and supervised by their relatives and friends. However, recently more funds are now being invested into commercially viable projects like malls, hotels and other office complexes.
It is not clear why there is such a sudden change in investment mode though it is suspected that the current generation of NRIs is more aware of the potential of investing in the major cities of India including that of Kerala. In addition to that most of the second generation, NRIs are more venturesome than their previous generation.
Millions of foreign currency has poured in from NRI investments in the last one year alone and this trend is expected to continue.
However, the demand for
Kerala flats
and apartments in the residential sector has not diminished as proved by the fast sellout of every new residential project in most parts of Kerala.
With the retail sector expected to boom in the country the interest of the NRIs in investing in malls and shopping complexes in addition to other corporate offices are seen as an extremely wise move by all.
These projected hikes in the various sectors of the industry are without doubt going to drive the residential requirements also higher. The one sobering fact is that even with all the fast-paced constructions going on, the residential sector is still unable to meet all the current accommodation needs. |
