The budget highlight for me was when Scott Kincaid said (I'm parphrasing) maybe we ought to just toss what we have away and vote on the Mayor's proposed budget and let the chips fall where they may.

Good, that is the way it should be.

That sounds better than taking away the vast majority of the Ombudsman's funding and adding to the council's staff.

There were no additions to Council staff.. Instead they kept things like their Ward Accounts and a Community Promotion account.... Kind of silly.

I will commend them on taking a pay cut... if they ALL actually do it.....

I think that overall though, the budget puts an emphasis on departments that are community priorities... police and fire....

What a sad display last night was.... we truly have a dysfunctional government. There are certain Council members that owe their allegiance to someone other than the people who put them in office. And it has never been more evident than it was last night. Why would you fight to keep money in the Mayor's office, but not for more police officers? Ombudsman or fire fighters? This process didn't start Monday morning.... If your elected to do a job, at least take the time to learn what you are doing. After three years, you would think that they would have caught on by now.
