Doctors and teachers to be given body armour
By Nicole Martin
Last Updated: 5:18PM BST 06/07/2008
Thousands of key workers such as doctors, nurses and teachers are to be given protective body armour to shield them from the threat of gun and knife crime.

Knife crime has eclipsed terrorism as the number one priority for the Metropolitan Police.
Hospital trusts and local authorities are said to be ordering the stab and bullet-proof vests in the tens of thousands to protect frontline staff, including traffic wardens and hospital porters.

Body Armour Company, which is based in Oxfordshire, said it had received about 10,000 orders for protective vests from local councils.

The most popular item requested was the £300 Home Office-approved KR1 stab vest, which was designed for "high-risk environments".

I don't know.... you could still stab 'em in the leg or neck. Maybe full suits of plate armor would be better.

See there 2 tap, gun control really does work. Since the thugs can't have guns and are obeying the UK's handgun ban, they carry knives now. Here in the US you certainly wouldn't shoot someone who attacked you with a knife would you ? That wouldn't be a fair fight.

if they are dumb enough to bring a knife to a gunfight that would be their problem. Shocked Laughing

I'm with ya 2 tap,

I spent quite a bit of time in the UK while in the Air Force and was there as recently as 2 years ago. I can tell you, knife crime in London is nothing new, and happens quite frequently. The hooligans in London who attack people with knives are always assured that there prey is unarmed. Also more and more police in the UK are armed with 9mm Glocks and MP 5s. Not so much the foot patrols in London, but they always have an armed constable close by if needed.

Let's see, what are you more likely to survive... a stab wound or a bullet hole?

While I have a horrific phobia of knives, in terms of survival odds, I gotta go with the blade.

I would rather not ever have to make a choice between getting shot or stabbed. That's why I carry a gun.
