So, the GAO just reported that 2/3rds of US firms, who reported trillions in sales, paid none, nada, zip in income taxes from '98 to 2005.

Gotta love those over taxed corporations. http://money.aol.com/news/articles/_a/bbdp/most-us-firms-avoid-federal-taxes/128782

That's unbelievable. I want to read it, but I'm frightened I might choke on my own bile.

Are you crazy, Mellow D? We can't ask corporations to pay taxes! What is this? The 1950s? Get with the times, daddy-o. Taxes are the responsibility of individuals – preferably working class. Never mind the fact that corporations have more legal rights than individuals. We know they aren't 'alive.' The fact that they increasingly refuse to pay a 'living wage' is totally in-line with the fact that they don't know what it means to be 'alive.' How can we really blame them for their inhumanity? More to the point, how can you tax an individual who isn't really alive, isn't really human? It gives me a headache just trying to think about it. So let's not. Let's just pay their way for them, be thankful for whatever crumbs we get, shop shop shop, and hope they won't get angry with us for discussing this subject.

Have you ever seen that documentary, "The Corporation"?

You've hit the nail on the head. The minute US law began treating coporations as INDIVIDUALS was the undoing of any sort of ability to make those running it answer for the actions of said corporation. Basically an invitation to act with impunity.

Lovely.

Public D I hadn't ever looked at it that way before. Interesting, food for thought!

Some very good ideas running on this topic.

I've only been saying this for years! People looked at me like I was nuts.

Oh and why is it again I'm a Dirty Rotten mean and cruel protectionist because I think imports should be taxed?

But, we do tax American Made products. Sounds to me more like it's a protectionist system that only taxes american products but not foriegn.

OK I'm obviously an idiot.
