The Flint River Watershed Coalition presents

An Evening with Congressman Dale Kildee

Date: October 23rd
Time: 6-9 PM
Location: Longway Planetarium
Cost: $30 per person or $100 for sponsorship (includes 4 tickets)

The Flint River Watershed Coalition is proud to announce that U.S. Congressman Dale Kildee will speak at our special fall event on Thursday October 23rd at the Longway Planetarium. Please join us for an evening of conversation, good food, and discussion on issues facing our watershed and the Great Lake basin.

In July of this year, Michigan became the final state of the eight Great Lakes states to approve the Great Lakes Compact. The Compact puts important protections in place that will safeguard Great Lakes water from diversion outside of the basin. Following Michigan's adoption of this legislation, the U.S. Senate quickly passed its own bill at the federal level, and the U.S. House recently followed suit.

"This is landmark legislation that is now on its way to President Bush, and he is expected to sign it. We want to celebrate this achievement with those who helped bring it about – including the Congressman, our nonprofit partners, and everyone who sees our watershed and the entire Great Lakes as a place to cherish," stated Flint River Watershed Coalition Executive Director Rebecca Fedewa.

Congressman Kildee will speak with us about the impacts of this legislation as well as the passage of the Great Lakes Legacy Act, which authorizes funding for restoration projects in Michigan and throughout the Great Lakes.

Also joining us will be James Clift, Policy Director for the Michigan Environmental Council. Mr. Clift will add a state level perspective on these bills, and will share his views regarding and their state and local impact.

The evening will begin at 6PM with hearty hors d'oeurves and a cash bar and will be capped off by a silent auction and the planetary show "Journey to the Edge of Space and Time." For those attending the event, a discounted membership to the Flint River Watershed Coalition also will be available.

Come enjoy some good food and conversation while showing your support for the Flint River and the Great Lakes as a source for local recreation, drinking water, and economic growth.

Tickets are $30, and reservations are required. Event sponsorships are available for $100 and include four tickets.

Contact Edie Westhoff, Business Manager for the Flint River Watershed Coalition, to make your reservations. (810) 767-6490 or ewesthoff@flintriver.org.

Donations for the silent auction can be delivered to the Flint River Watershed Coalition office at 432 N. Saginaw Street, Suite 238. All donations will be listed in the evening's program and are tax deductible.
