I hate election years! I was displeased by the 2000 election, but clinically depressed after 2004. The most upsetting bit was the new feel of hate I had for a large chunk of this country. Hating America for the first time literally broke my heart and I stayed in bed for days. I love this country too much to see it hijacked by religious fanatics.
Sometimes in this election, I feel like there's hope again. Like our country can rise up to be its best. Like those scars will be soothed. If Obama dies in office, I will be inconsolable. Possibly worse than what people report for the day JFK died. Biden seems qualified, but holy shit: Inconsolable.
Yet on other days, disgust bubbles up and I expect McCain to win -- despite the lead, despite the obvious economic disadvantages, despite the ideological stubbornness for unlimited war. I am not a person accustom to hatred, so it upsets me when I feel like I cannot coexist with a large chunk of my country. I don't think I'll be sad if McCain wins, I worry that I'll be as bitter and pessimistic as they are.
Do you watch campaign videos and compare the crowds? Why is there so much boo'ing at McCain rallies? Their campaign is based on hate. I feel proud that ours is based on hope, and I'm clinging to the possibility that good will win. Lets all be fair winners and losers.
As I've said before, I am good at seeing both sides and finding compromise. So I have to ask myself, how is my divisiveness different from the KKK supporter who will be depressed if a Muslim socialist like Obama wins? Won't they be just as upset? People pick a candidate based on their values, and I can't blame them for being brainwashed by a monotheistic, misogynistic, heteronormative culture. We mustn't paint the opponent as a villain.
Unless he really is one, and then by all means -- macro that fucker up -- because come November 4th, I think we have a chance. The alternative is worse than the worst Disney move ever. I hope we can win this thing for the better for all America! |

Ryan, do you honestly think he can deliver on every one of his campaign promises? |

Dave, at this point it doesn't matter if he delivers or not. The election is over, now's the time to gather our strengths behind a new administration. In four years we'll all be able to remember this week as a new era. I just hope everyone voted and isn't casting blame or responsibility unless they intend to shoulder it as well. |

Or as a continuation of a path towards disaster. |

Stock market bombing, auto industry on the verge of total failure, banks failing, national debt growing wildly due to "bailouts". Yup; things are really better.
Yeah, I know, it's all Bush's fault and it will be for the next 4 years. |

Yeah if you think like Al Qaeda. Our economy is tanking if you haven't noticed. Obama's bailout is not working! |

It's all their fault. If they wanted to help Americans they should have cut the check to the american taxpayers. |
