You know this is funny, my jurisdiction stopped buying coffee for employees because it was construed as a "gift" and the cost was increasing.......amazing, just amazing.
I also thought that a government entity could NOT give monies to a religious institution.....
Michigan Constitution:
§ 4 Freedom of worship and religious belief; appropriations.
Sec. 4.
Every person shall be at liberty to worship God according to the dictates of his own conscience. No person shall be compelled to attend, or, against his consent, to contribute to the erection or support of any place of religious worship, or to pay tithes, taxes or other rates for the support of any minister of the gospel or teacher of religion. No money shall be appropriated or drawn from the treasury for the benefit of any religious sect or society, theological or religious seminary; nor shall property belonging to the state be appropriated for any such purpose. The civil and political rights, privileges and capacities of no person shall be diminished or enlarged on account of his religious belief.

Lessee, it was against the taxpayers consent...atheists didn't have equal access to monies, neither did secular humanists, did the local covens get their chance at monies too? What about the Moonies?
Is the Don advocating the Baptist Faith now, for the sake of the Citizens of Flint and making waves to set a precedent for other jurisdictions to follow? Hmmm....slippery slope. Remember when the Anglicans were "in charge" of the United States. What about taxation without representation?
http://www.christfellowshipmbc.org/index-old3.htm
Is this the website to the church? If so, it says right on the front page how to be saved right at the bottom. Isn't he breaking the law? US AND Michigan?!
The other block club names seem legitimate enough to issue checks to without fear of lawsuits or infringing on the rights of others.
Yes, churches do WONDERFUL things for the community, BUT monies deliberately coming out of the City Treasury......uh...oh.
Can a Muslim child go in and use their facilities for a gymnasium? Can a Jewish child go in and use the facility for their gym or for other activities any time they want? Is this check written for facility fees for use of an election? If the last items apply then the check is legitimate. |

i know for a fact anyone, regardless of race or religion can use the
facilities of black churches and i suspect thats probably true of all
other churches. individual pastors "tend" not to be hamstrung by
public whims of intolerance... |

I've been to a couple "Black" Churches for community meetings, and was made to feel welcome by the members of the Church that were present. |

I doubt that I would have been welcomed at Rev. Wright's "Church". |

Actually.. the Chargers were about $180,000.00 Not sure what that entry is for. Maybe to outfit them with the police package.
I see that the "Chief" had a little accident last night. Seems to be a pattern there with that fellow. |

There are a couple of entries that don't make sense. I don't know if that specific dealer is capable of outfitting police cars unless they are under contract with a supplier...I don't know if that's how it works or not. But 29k for 6 vehicles is awfully cheap to be honest.
It's costing PD's more if they are part of the paperless system that Genesee county is going to, that is if Flint is part of it.
Don is a piece of work, ain't he? |

Is this legal?
Aren't "emergency purchases" supposed to be emergencies?
Was there a bidding processes followed?
We couldn't even at least buy from Genesee County?
Isn't this a GM town?
Why are we supporting Chrysler wen GM is the providing us with tax dollars? |

Not all the way. Was it legal? Did he break the law? Should he be prosecuted? Just because you call something by a legal name does not make it legal. |

The problem is, who is going to do something about it? The City Council? Maybe I'll call my Councilwoman and ask her about it. |
