At Sarvis last night, 2 very deserving ladies received volunteer of the year awards from Mayor Walling. One lady, Lynne Waybright, is one of the very few winners who received two standing ovations. For the past 3 years, Lynne has been partnering with various block clubs, assisting them with cleanups and other activities. This year, she, and her family, have personally cleaned up 82 empty lots and abandoned houses, mostly in the 5th ward, where she lives. She has also organized back to school rallys, puts out a monthly informational newsletter, and holds monthly meetings for 5th ward residents and anyone else that wishes to attend. Guest speakers at these meetings have included Mayor Walling, Police Chief Lock, State Representative Jim Slezak, the executive director of the Land Bank, and other government officials.
Lynne has stated many times that she does this because she cares very deeply about the residents of Flint. Lynne doesn't just talk the talk, she, and her family walk the walk.
She is a candidate for the 5th ward council seat, and is very well qualified for the position. She is a graduate of Michigan State University, and holds a Masters degree in Psychology from Wayne State University. |

Starr,
You said TWO ladies received the volunteer award?
you failed to mention the second lady?
WHY? You wanted to promote the one?
Peace,

Because I know Lynne. I don't know anything about the other lady, although I'm sure she's also very deserving of the award. If you know anything about her, I'd appreciate hearing it. |
