FLINT, Michigan — Flint firefighters battled eight fires in less than 24 hours.

Two firefighters suffered minor burns in a fire that started at 2:34 a.m. today near Martin Luther King Avenue and McClellan Street, said Battalion Chief Andy Graves. One of the firefighters was burned on both ears and the second was burned on the wrist.

Both were treated and released, said Graves.

It was the second time the occupied home on McClellan burned in four hours overnight, said Graves. The first began at 10:39 p.m. Sunday in the home's basement.

The second fire had multiple starting points and when crews arrived, there was heavy fire on the first floor extending to the second, said Graves. There was no link to the earlier fire.

Police are investigating the cause of the blazes and arson is suspected, said Graves. Red Cross was called to assist the family of six that lived in the home.

Firefighters battled three fires in occupied homes and three others in vacant homes, said Graves. Two juveniles were arrested on suspicion of arson in a fire that began in an occupied home around 11 a.m. Sunday near Winona Street and Myrtle Avenue.

Another fire began at 11:44 a.m. Sunday in an occupied home near Thom Street and Branch Road, said Graves. The fire was quickly extinguished, and Red Cross is assisting the family of five living in the home.

Firefighters were called to abandoned house fires at 5:13 p.m. and 10:27 p.m. Sunday and 1:10 a.m. Monday on Jamieson Street, Delaware Avenue W. Parkway Avenue, said Graves.

Firefighters found signs of ransacking and forced entry in an occupied house fire that started around 1:05 a.m. Monday near Yale Street and Clara Avenue, said Graves. The Red Cross is assisting the single occupant of the home.

The causes of all of the fires are under investigation. To report information, call Arson Investigators Sgt. Jim Hamilton at (810) 237-6912 or Sgt. Dana Daniels at (810) 237-6922.

FLINT, Michigan — Firefighters battled three blazes in just over an hour this morning, all in vacant homes.

The first fire started around 5:20 a.m. today on Hammond Road, near Corunna Road, said Battalion Chief Andy Graves. The vacant house was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene.

A neighboring home was also damaged in the blaze, said Graves.

The second fire began at 5:36 a.m. less than half of a mile away on Corunna Road, near Farnum Avenue, said Graves.

This abandoned home previously burned on the second floor, and there were multiple starting points for the fire on the first floor this morning, said Graves. The home was heavily damaged.

A firefighter was injured battling the third blaze, which started around 6:10 a.m. on the east side of the city, on Belle Avenue near Minnesota Avenue, said Graves.

The firefighter injured his knee when he fell through the second floor and was treated and released, said Graves.

The cause of all of the fires are under investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Arson Investigators Sgt. Jim Hamilton at (810) 237-6912 or Sgt. Dana Daniels at (810) 237-6922.

The Glenwood area has had an arsonist for many years. There are only 2 Flint Police arson investigators and they must be totally overwhelmed. They can really only respond when they catch them in the act.

FLINT, Michigan — Firefighters responded to calls at four vacant buildings Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

The most damage occurred at a former bank building at Glenwood and Chevrolet Avenues.

Firefighters arrived at the two-story building at about 4:12 a.m. today finding heavy fire on the second floor, according to Battalion Chief Andy Graves.

Sections of the roof collapsed before firefighters were able to control the fire from the exterior. The Fire Department has requested emergency demolition of the structure, calling it unsafe.

Graves said a demolition supervisor was at the site this morning.

Earlier, at 1:19 a.m., firefighters fought two fires inside the old Family Dollar building on North Franklin Avenue near Maryland Avenue. Crews found signs of forced entry, Graves said. The building incurred moderate damage.

On Tuesday night, firefighters also put out small fires in a abandoned home on North Street near Wagner Avenue and in a vacant garage on Leith Street near North Franklin Avenue.

The causes of each fire are under investigation.
