Mayor Don Williamson has paid the city $1000.00 for his use of city generators and the help of the Flint Fire Department during Halloween trick or treating at his home, a city official said during a news conference Thursday.
The announcement came a day after the City Council launched an investigation into allegations that the mayor might have improperly used city generators and brought in city employees on overtime to power lamp posts and inflate Halloween decorations on his front lawn.
It also clarified comments made by City Administrator Peggy R. Cook, who attended the event and at first denied the charge, not realizing city equipment was used until she learned otherwise Thursday.
The generators were needed after high winds knocked out power temporarily to Williamson's neighborhood on Saturday. The mayor didn't want to disappoint the more than 2,000 trick-or-treaters expected in what has become an annual event publicized by area media, said Joe Conroy, the city's governmental operations director.
