1. I think we should sacrifice some minor crime investigations to focus more on more serious muder investigations.
2. I think we should sacrifice officers coming out to take complaints that they are not authorized to investigate and instead start taking complaints over the phone or perhaps have citizens come down to the police department to report the more minor complaints. Obviously serious complaints should be done in person.
3. I think we should sacrifice some patrol officers for investigators who can actually investigate crimes. This would lessen the burden on patrol officers because more criminals would be taken off the streets this way.
I think we should also "sacrifice" an inefficient police budget. We spend more for less officers than comparable cities.
I think we should also "sacrifice" a secretive police force. Why can't the put more stats up. How many arrests do our 250 police officers make per day? How many citations, how many investigations etc. How many complaints go uninvestigated. How many cases are put on each investigator per day. etc

I was planning on going over this at the next city council meeting. If they're good ideas I don't know why they can't be implemented immediately. I'm not a big fan of task forces. If someone has a good idea that makes sense I don't see why that idea can't be implemented. I might try and get Mays and Freeman on this to speak as well. I actually stole some of my ideas from Eric Mays anyways. Maybe with my backing he will be willing to bring them up one more time and we can try and force the issue. |
