in my neighborhood bounded by dort & saginaw (east & west) and
lippincott & lapeer (south & north), there are several homes owned
by.........ahem.........persons engaged in illegal activities.
now you guys are the ones selling these homes to these guys.
i was roused from a peaceful sleep the other morning at 5:a.m. by
5 loud pops right outside my window! i look out my bedroom window
and see a kat running through a neighbors yard. i open my window
ans call out "is anybody out there?"....i won't say the rest because
i assume there is an investigation in progress.
you guys know damn well who your selling homes to in my neighborhood.
i or my son could have gotten shot while
in bed! i am going to find out which one of you is selling these
homes in my neighborhood. next time you wish to make some
easy money by soiling MY neighborhood, sell them homes in
YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD!!!!! we are watching you!!!  |

Lt I dont blame you for being irate but ya gotta remember Flint was the First in the nation to pass Open Housing laws and of course the rest of the nation has followed suit. It would be hard in fact illegal (civil rights commision here we come) for a realestate person to refuse a sale based on some sort of predetermined criteria. No drug dealers and no families with gangbangin punk kids, nope cant exclude them folks. I gotta say though I believe that people should have the right to refuse selling or service based on nothing more than their personal feelings. A good bit of vigilante justice is just what Flint and most major cities need of course the vigilantes would find themselves in deep shit if caught and the poor misguided ganger would probably wind up owning everything you own. Its a friggin mess with no solution in sight. You have my sympathys.

well........i'd imagine a nice advertisement in the flint journal addressed
to "all realtors" may do some good. of course, included in the letter
would be the threat of printing the realtors name....gotta do something!!!
actually, open housing referred to different races, not drug dealers
who kill communities right?? i have to believe that a realtor has enough
brains to see that some clown who buys a house cash and has no job
may be doing something illegal. or when this same guy buys several
houses in the city.........i have to believe the agent is in it for the money
and could care less about the good people they are putting in danger....

i'm not an agent or anything, but how would you know they were a drug dealer? they probably wouldn't tell you, or fill it in on a form...
and you can't really use the excuse "they looked like a drug dealer" because i don't believe you can exclude someone based on their opinion.
if it were a job interview, that would be different. But like I said, I'm not an agent, so I'm not sure about the rules. |

Your right that was the original intent but unfortunatly it also made it impossible and illegal to exclude anyone you dont like the looks of if they have the financing in fact in some cases even if they do not. What are you gonna tell the realestate agents to do, refuse to accept offers from anyone that does not fit your preferences. That aint gonna cut it nowdays thanks in part to the open housing act and the power of the civil rights commission, you cant have it both ways. If I remember it was ex mayor Floyd Mccree who pushed for the original open housing act and threatened to quit being mayor saying("I will not be mayor over a city that condones an equal opportunity lie") Well as you can see that equal opportunity extends to crack dealers, gangbangers and Hos.I wonder how he would explain its final outcome to those of you fed up with its consequenses? And if there are any realestate brokers reading this they sure arent in any hurry to answer your original question.

i believe the mccree thing has nothing to do with drug dealers being sold
homes in a nice quiet neighborhood.
easy obvious examples:
1. kat buys a home with cash.
2. owns several very expensive autos yet has no job.
add to the offer to purchase:
3. ask police or private detective to check them out (non refundable).
it ain't that damn hard, hell i could do it!!!!
they know what their doing. i agree with sue. they are allowing
crap to happen for money....i call em hoes.  |

I have heard on my scanner many times when police are sent on a call that the address they are sent to is described by the dispatcher as "A known drughouse". Well if that fact is known why is it still operating. Another one of my favorite calls is So and So is a convicted felon who is known to carry firearms. Seems strange the player is still out and about with that being common knowledge. Their are many reasons for the decline of some neighborhoods and the day private citizens lost their right to sell their home to someone of their choosing based on the Government telling them so only added to it. Unfortunate but true. I agree though that an agent isnt about to turn down that listing fee because he or she is worried about where the buyer gets his income from.

You would have the ACLU all over ya if you ever had that done and refused to sell to em if they had cash or a loan to buy what you were selling. You cant Discriminate period and if you tried it some lib judge somewhere would probably wind up giving them your home free gratis. After all thugs have rights too. |

Seems dealers wouldn't want to own property because if convicted of drug dealing, property is subject to being confiscated. That's why some drug dealers "live with their moms" as written about elsewhere. A dealer lived down the street was caught and got time, meanwhile house was foreclosed and empty for awhile before being resold.
Would be great to have housing laws changed so no one could purchase property unless they pass a credit and criminal background check.
