The organizer of the recall effort against the mayor is now asking the City Council to forfeit the mayor from office under a rarely used forfeiture clause in the city charter.
Dawn Jones had more.
There are certain violations in the city charter that are punishable by forfeiture of office. And in this case, Eric Mays claims the mayor is guilty of a number of them.
Mays presented his case to the council Wednesday because they are the ones who have the power to forfeit an elected official from office.
Mays was once a staunch supporter of the mayor. Now he's his arch nemesis, doing everything he can to get the mayor out of office.
He is spearheading a recall effort, and Wednesday he took it a step further.
Mays went before council and requested a public hearing as the first step to have the mayor removed from office under a forfeiture clause in the city charter.
From all indications it appears the council is planning to grant the request for a public hearing.
