1. every now and then while a dragster is headed toward the starting line, it will shoot a mist straight up near the windshield.
1. is that nitros?
2. why are they spraying it?

3. how does a transbrake work in simple terms for a simple guy?
thanks Laughing Laughing

Yup thats nitrous you see being sprayed, makes sure their is no air in the line and the motor gets a nice cool blast of NOS. Transbrake allows ya to bring the revs up with out using the cars brakes that way they can leave at 6 grand or whatever the desire. Thats how they come out with front wheels up and balls to the wall. Trans brake is a solenoid operated valve in the trans valve body. It essentially locks the tranny in forward and reverse at the same time until the actuating button is released. Really puts a shock on the internals but is instant engagement of forward gears. They are also used mostly with other electronic devices, for quicker reaction times and consistency in et's. Line lock is also a solenoid but is installed in the hydraulic brake line, to lock up the front brakes for burnouts and some even use them on the rear for launching(never seen them work for that to well). They are button or switch operated too, but only releases the brakes and has nothing to do with the trans. If your gonna break something the combo of NOS and a transbrake helps guarantee you eventually will. LT Did ya see the Nova video I had up for a while?

Several times at the strip I've seen cars standing on the rear bumpers when they launch. Always wanted to tell them that they'll get better times with the rear tires on the ground. Laughing
Had a coworker with a 62 Plymouth Belvedere and a 440 - single 4 barrel, no nitrous - that ran mid to low 9's. UNTIL he missed a shift. Larger motors don't hold up well at 12,000 rpm. Laughing Laughing

Why screw around with a small block when you can stick a big block just about anywhere a mouse motor will fit. If I had it to do again and an unlimited budget I would go for this. No nitrous no blower just raw torque and HP.

To answer your question NOS is cheaper and you can stick a 125hp on basically a stock motor. Of course that 125hp is only there when you have some available and when the bottle runs out well. A blower is there all the time of course you are talking plenty of dollars plus possible internal mods to the motor. if you have a choice go with the blower cause once you get it set up its on tap when you need it. Nitrous is only used at wide open throttle Laughing H Of course after all the screwing around you will probably wind up where a big block starts out. Wink Laughing
Heres some blowers that fit under the hood. http://store.summitracing.com/egnsearch.asp?Ntt=supercharger&N=700+4294839808+115&Nao=10&Ntk=KeywordSearch#rstop +

Twotap...why not the 572/720?

(And personally, I'd never pass up the chance
to stuff a big blower on top of any motor!!!)

LT, you could always do what a buddy of mine did. He put an early 70's 500 Caddy in a 68 GMC pickup. Stock, the Caddy's got gobs of torque. Add a cam, new intake & carb, and headers, & you've got a really good street machine.
