Which one? I wasn't aware any were coming down. |

The one on Dort. I passed by it the other day and I saw some bulldozers, but didn't think anything of it. Then I was looking at an old postcard of the complex on Ebay yesterday and the seller stated that the buildings were slated for demolition next month.
But that's all I'm going on... a bulldozer and an ebay posting... so maybe I'm totally wrong. |

Thats terrible Tegan, I haven't heard anything about it. If they are tearing it down they would need a permit, I wonder if they got one? Also, they need to make sure they allow like Sloan to go in and get those old Flint Fiance Tiles if they do tear it down.

Yes, the old Dort AC factory buildings will be dismantled. The materials will be recycled and you'll be glad to know that the old Flint Faience Tiles including the tile sign at Davison & Dort will be saved. BTW, Flint Faience Tile will be the subject of my article in the April issue of Your Magazine. |

That makes me sad. My great grandmother and step-great grandfather both worked at AC. That was the last GM-related plant left tied to my family. My mother's, grandfather's, great grandfather's, and great great grandfather's buildings were already torn down. :(
On an "unrelated" note, while driving through Kalamazoo, I heard on the radio that a new business had moved into one of the old auto factories and created a couple hundred jobs.... they are only filling a small part of the facility now, but they plan on expanding and creating more jobs.... they apparently don't tear down their buildings as soon as they are vacant.... |

My mom, a couple of my uncles, and several cousins worked at AC. I also had relatives at Chevy in the Hole & Buick, including my dad & I. My dad and a couple uncles were charter members of the UAW & sit-downers. |

Yes they are coming down. I have a friend that is contracted to Delpi through another company and he took a bunch of pictures of the inside as well as the trek me and him made a couple of weeks ago to photograph the outside. |
