That reminds me back when I was taking the Nova to lapeer dragway and my buddy his Camaro we had a hand held practice tree we would keep in tune with at work. Last time there I took first in my trophy bracket and my buddy took first in the money bracket. He had a 69 camaro running 10.06 @ 135 on the motor no nitrious. My nova was a consistent 11.72@ 119 once again no nitrious. That was back in 1988. Great fun.

He came up for a visit last summer and we took the Nova for a spin. He agrees its probably quicker since it now has a better cam, intake, and carb as well as fiberglass hood, bumpers, and lightweight weld draglight wheels. By the way if you wait until you see green at lapeer you will be sleeping at the tree. That last yellow lights up you better be reacting. |

Haven't been to Lapeer Dragway in 20 years.
I have a buddy with a 64 Chevy II. 477 big block, double shot of spray. Last time out last year he broke the oil pump and let off at the 1,000 foot mark (before he hit the second shot of nitrous) and still ran 8.35. I remember when those were respectable times for Pro Stock. |
