State Supporters,

"Kenny," the funniest movie I've seen since "Borat," opens today at the
historic State Theatre in downtown Traverse City. It's so funny, and the
laughter in the theater is so loud, that you'll have to control yourself or
you'll miss the next line.

Fresh on the heels of winning the comedy jury prize at last week's TC Film
Festival, "Kenny" returns by popular demand to the theater that will launch
its American cult status as hands-down the funniest movie of the year.

No one in America has heard of "Kenny." And this, my friends, is going to be
one more example of how our little theater and little festival in our little
town in the middle of nowhere is creating a revolution. I truly believe that
this unknown film will become a huge hit, thanks to Traverse City, Michigan.

Seriously, nobody knows about this movie -- except everybody in Australia.
There it has become one of the highest grossing comedies ever. But as far as
playing outside of Australia, well, the Canadians had it briefly -- and
that's about it for North America.

How did I hear about it? Bill Weeks, who is organizing the plumbing and
electricity and set up of my film production here, told me I should show
this movie, which he saw while he was on vacation in Australia. He said it
was the funniest damn thing he's ever seen.

So I got the producer to send me a DVD of "Kenny." I was in stitches in
minutes.

I asked everyone I knew in Hollywood if they had heard of it. No one had. I
checked the festival circuit -- no one knew about it, no one played it.

I'm telling you, Traverse City has discovered something truly special here.
And I want you to tell EVERYONE you know who is in need of a good laugh
right now to come and see this great movie.

Yes, "Kenny" is the true story of a man who helps run a port-a-potty
company. But lest you think this is a movie of toilet humor, gross-out
jokes, or bad taste, think again. "Kenny" is a genius work of comic art that
relies solely on being smart. There is a not a single shot of poop in this
picture. You never see what's inside the toilets that Kenny cleans -- he
leaves it entirely up to your imagination (which is far worse and far
funnier!).

If this movie had been made in Hollywood, it would have been nonstop
bathroom humor and stuff that makes 13-year-old boys jump for joy. "Kenny"
never resorts to that. This is a movie for people with a brain, for adults
ready for 90 minutes of pure laughter. This is not a "boy movie" -- women
should not stay away because the funniest moments come at the expense of my
gender (Kenny explains at one point why men can handle any odor in the
bathroom and stay in there till we finish "War and Peace," while women are
often rendered incapacitated on impact when they simply open the bathroom
door).

"Kenny" is a film that deals with the class struggle, about what life is
like for the people who clean up after us. They are often invisible, and
this film truly shines when it comes to sticking up for the little guy.

Halfway through the film, Kenny is asked to go to America for a huge
port-a-potty convention. I won't spoil it for you, but the look of
wonderment on Kenny's face as he views the American version of the outdoor
head is like manna from heaven.

At one point in the film, Kenny crawls out of a septic tank and declares,
"There's a smell in there that will outlast religion." That's one of the
many lines you'll be quoting to your friends all week long after you see
"Kenny." Come on down to the State beginning today. And bring your friends
who need a good laugh. You will not regret this!

Let the "Kenny" revolution begin today to Traverse City!

Yours,

Michael Moore

Hey Mike! How about dropping a couple mil on the land bank and earmark it for cleaning up the properties they own in this city you claim to love???

Why not buy the Capital Theater, renovate it & use it for your film festivals?

You want Michael Moore to give back to the city he expoited to launch his career?! Surely you jest!

Mike has given quite a bit of money to various groups around the area. What really makes me curious though, is why someone who thinks progressive tax brackets on the wealthy is wrong thinks Mike owes anything to Flint? Isn't the fact that he spends his money good enough for our trickle-down economy? Also, why is it that when a corporation picks up and leaves the city that helped create it, its called fair capitalism, but when somebody with a camera films the aftermath, its "exploitation"? I know, its an old question from an old argument, but I have never heard a good answer.

. . . and another thing. . . Why, if General Motors is excused for closing factories because they are losing money for them, should Michael Moore be expected to buy a theater that has no history or hope of making a profit? The theater in Traverse City does very well. I seem to recall several theaters in our area closing recently.

Kevin, I'm not sure if you're referring to me or Dave but I'm not against a progressive income tax. As for Michael Moore, sometimes I have a hard time determining how genuine he is. There is certainly nothing wrong with making an informative documentary or showing the result of GM's abandonment of Flint, I've just never heard of him giving anything back to this area which I find a bit hypocritical given his stance on GM. If, as you say, he does in fact give to groups in the area, than that would improve my opinion of him.

Sounds like it was inspired by the Red Green Show, with the Septic Sucking Service.......not like I watch the show or anything.

I'm opposed to the Flint, Michigan and Federal income taxes.
