"Our quandary is that we are apparently not capable of safely manufacturing $700 billion in debt securities to sell to foreigners every year, as we've been doing since 2005. (That this is the same total as Treasury's bailout plan is just a coincidence.) "

The best part of the bailout was the dems wanting to divert 20% of it to ACORN. Thankfully someone was alerted to that fact. Shocked

Yes, you got me there, my apologies. The percentage could be questioned, but after reading Dave's link, I checked, and the real media has covered this too. What's the saying? Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Having said that, I'm not sure ACORN is any less responsible or worthy than many Wall Street institutions. At least ACORN was planning on helping people losing their homes. Meantime, I'm still thinking maybe withdrawing my 401k and taking the tax hit might be more profitable than letting it continue to lose value as House members pose for re-election stances.

Myself I gotta go out and start splitting some more red oak to offset our illustrious Governors plan to increase our heating and electric bills. I guess you could say I am off to the Maul.
