Thursday, July 08, 2004 The Flint city council voted 7 to 0 to pay themselves more than $235,000 in back pay and benefits to reverse cuts imposed by former emergency financial manager Ed Kurtz.
Ed Taylor (2nd ward) $17,436 $9,700 $27,136
Scott Kincaid (9th ward) $17,328 $9,700 $27,028
Johnnie Coleman (3rd ward) $17,080 $9,700 $26,780
Peggy R. Cook** (4th ward) $16,411 $9,700 $26,111
Carolyn Sims (5th ward) $16,364 $9,700 $26,064
Mark A. Horrigan (6th ward) $16,136 $9,700 $25,836
Lawrence B. Murphy (9th ward) $16,036 $9,700 $25,736
Matt Schlinker (7th ward) $16,036 $9,700 $25,736
Darryl E. Buchanan (1st ward) $15,185 $9,700 $24,885
Total $148,012 $87,300 $235,312
* = The retirement estimate is based on the council getting 25 percent of what they would have been paid had there not been any cuts, a percent confirmed by the city. An estimate was needed because the actual amounts have yet to be calculated by the city and they likely will vary slightly per member.
** = Cook is now the city administrator.

And you know what is funny about this back pay issue... Sandy used that against me in the campaign... saying that my first vote was to restore my pay. I wasn't even on the Council yet! She was and is soooooo out of touch... |

Steve, you've got bad info.
Sims, Coleman and Horrigan have a signed agreement with the State of Michigan for a repayment plan and make payments on a monthly basis. Kincaid paid the amount back in full. Murphy never got a check. Schlinker returned his check. You'll have to ask the Mayor about Cook and Buchanan. Not sure about Taylor. |

She ought to be able to afford it... between her and her husband... they have to be bringing home around $200,000 a year plus benefits.
Kind of funny, she is the one that that introduced the resolution and everyone else is getting blamed for it. |

Nobody wants to remember that Josh. She introduced it and The Don supported it whole heartedly. When the State and citizens balked The Don turned on the council and started blaming them. And people wonder why the council and the mayor don't get along. |
