A City Council candidate who lost by 38 votes in last week's general election is asking for a recount.
Benny Spence, who lost to incumbent Carolyn Sims 579-541, made the request Tuesday, said Robert Coffman, Genesee County elections supervisor.
The county Board of Canvassers will decide whether to allow the recount at a meeting that likely will be held the week after Thanksgiving. If approved, the recount would likely happen the same day.
Sims has the opportunity to file a counterpetition against such a count, Coffman said.
Coffman said it's unlikely the recount will change the result unless it reveals a major problem.
