At the Tuesday meeting of block clubs this morning, a lady that lives in Howard Estates said that the police officers normally at the public housing sites have been pulled out. Anyone know anything about this?

Also, is there a possibility that all the uproar about back pay, etc., a smoke screen to distract people from what's going on at city hall?

Why would a public housing unit need to have police stationed there. Do they have a crime problem. Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing Laughing Maybe someone accused the cops of racial profilin. Laughing Laughing

Dave,

I haven't heard about that. I know this chief is doing everything he can to improve the response time. We need every officer on the street right now. I think this is just the beginning of the sacrifices we are going to see. We don't have enough police to go around.

Sacrifices - as long as one area isn't neglected to improve coverage in another. The lady that told me this lives in Howard Estates. She said the word there is that it's now open season, the police won't respond. Also, I've seen a couple cruisers lately with 2 officers in them. A new trend? The calls I hear on the scanner usually dispatch 2 cars, so putting 2 officers back in cars would at least save on some gas money.

Dave,

The police will still respond. They have too, its how long will it take. I heard the union is pushing that issue. It's alot safer to have two officers, and they can do alot more police work. I know when I was working my partner and I used to park the cruiser and walk through the projects. It's alot more tactical to be on foot. I know if they call us back I won't change that at all. The officers still working shared my view point on this theory. Besides it was hiliarious when thought we were security and would continue to deal drugs. By the time they found out they were wrong, it was too late.

One of the PAL officers was put back on patrol, the other is still there while the chief evaluates the program. He's said that he's looking into using the liaison officers for the PAL program. Although there's been a millage that was supposed to pay for 40 community policing officers, I don't think there's any right now. There was a lady at the Tuesday meeting of block clubs we go to that was asking about this.
