WOW. All that money spent on the new press building & they plan to shut it down? |

I wonder if the City could revoke the tax abatement that was given by Kurtz if they were to stop using that plant? |

Good Point Josh, I think they should.

If it's just a building with no activity (workers) that would be of benefit to the city, than by all means revoke it. |

Even if they print the paper up in Saginaw they'll still use the building for inserting the papers and putting the bundles together for the carriers. At least for a while.
This whole thing sucks. They are not doing everything in their power to save money. Why are they still an afternoon paper? For a six month period last year they averaged over 1800 more copies of the paper sold on Saturdays than on Monday through Fridays. Not because that Saturday paper is so great but because it was available for sale all day long instead of by 10:30am at the earliest. They could have easily sold a half million more papers last year just in the stores. Not counting the people subscribing to the paper because they would switch to mornings. They should have went to a morning paper 10 years ago.
And if it's so much cheaper to print in Saginaw why aren't they doing it already?
It just looks like they are determined to get rid of seven day delivery.

Tell anyone you know that is still taking the paper and doesn't own a computer to call the Journal and tell them how pissed they will be if they can't get the paper seven days a week. The Journal needs to hear this.
Thanks,
Jeff |
