Topic: Questions about shrinking Flint

With all the hoo-ha about shrinking Flint, I've got questions.

When will officials reveal details of their plan?

Will the public have any input?

Where will the money come from?

It's been stated that the abandoned areas would not have police or fire services. What will prevent them from becoming drug & thug infested?

Eliminating 40% of the city will reduce the tax base. How will the revenues be made up?

If, as has been stated, no one will be forced to move, and abandoned areas will have no city services, will the people that stay have to pay taxes to a city that they receive no services from?

I've seen comments that people in areas where those moving will be relocated don't want "those people" in their neighborhoods. How will this will be dealt with?

I've also heard that people will be relocated into land bank owned houses. Is this true? What if someone doesn't want a land bank owned house? Or, is this some sweetheart deal for the land bank & those connected to it?

If abandoned areas remain within the city limits, how can the city refuse to provide services to those areas? If the city limits are moved, what if the surrounding government entities don't want to absorb them?

I've also heard that it's all a plan for certain connected individuals to buy up the property for pennies. Then, developers connected to those individuals will get grants to build new housing, ala "Bunchaweewee Hills".

Want me to move?
1. Pay off my mortgage.
2. I pick the new house, you pay for it.
3. New house must have:
a. Photography darkroom at least as large as my present one.
b. 3500 gallon Koi pond with filtration to my specs in back yard.
c. Minimum 2 car garage size workshop.
d. All plants in my flower gardens, mainly Roses and Hostas, must be
moved to the new house by professional gardeners.
