Black Independence Day. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on June 19. I've had some black people tell me they celebrate this, rather than July 4, because the slaves weren't freed on July 4, 1776. |

Hmmmmmmmmmm! I have been gone from California too long. How long has this been a Holiday and might it become a federal Holiday? Or is this like Saint Patrick's day celebrating a Saint?
