Using crime data compiled by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, NeighborhoodScout.com made a list of areas with the highest predicted rates of violent crime in the United States. The nation's worst neighborhood, according to the study, is in Cincinnati. The study's author, geographer Dr. Andrew Schiller, said the calculation gives people a better way to understand the "climate" of crime in particular in sections of cities. "It's better to understand the climate rather than the weather. It's very important to have a sense of risk for somebody in a particular location rather than a more pedestrian counting of what happened last week," Schiller said. In addition to stats provided by the FBI, NeighborhoodScout.com collected data from 17,000 local law enforcement agencies. Schiller and his team looked at key indicators as identified within the FBI Uniform Crime Reports. Incidents and rates per 1,000 people in a neighborhood population for specific violent crimes were then calculated. (Forest Ave./41st St.) •Dallas, Texas (Route 352/Scyene Rd.) •Richmond, Va. (Church Hill) •Memphis, Tenn. (Bellevue Blvd./Lamar Ave.) •Dallas, Texas (2nd Ave./Hatcher St.) •Springfield, Ill. (Cook St./11th St.) •St. Louis (14th St./Dr. Martin Luther King Dr.) •Little Rock, Ark. (Roosevelt Rd./Bond St.) •Philadelphia (Broad St./Dauphin St.) •Tampa, Fla.
