Since the theme today seems to be who did what and when lets examine mr "I support your rights as gunowners" record and see who he worked for and what his record actually is.

On the Second Amendment, Don’t Believe Obama!

Friday, June 06, 2008

The presidential primary season is finally over, and it is now time for gun owners to take a careful look at just where apparent nominee Barack Obama stands on issues related to the Second Amendment. During the primaries, Obama tried to hide behind vague statements of support for “sportsmen” or unfounded claims of general support for the right to keep and bear arms.

But his real record, based on votes taken, political associations, and long standing positions, shows that Barack Obama is a serious threat to Second Amendment liberties. Don’t listen to his campaign rhetoric! Look instead to what he has said and done during his entire political career.

FACT: Barack Obama voted to allow reckless lawsuits designed to bankrupt the firearms industry.1

FACT: Barack Obama wants to re-impose the failed and discredited Clinton Gun Ban.2

FACT: Barack Obama voted to ban almost all rifle ammunition commonly used for hunting and sport shooting.3

FACT: Barack Obama has endorsed a complete ban on handgun ownership.2

FACT: Barack Obama supports local gun bans in Chicago, Washington, D.C., and other cities.4

FACT: Barack Obama opposes Right to Carry laws.7

FACT: Barack Obama was a member of the Board of Directors of the Joyce Foundation, the leading source of funds for anti-gun organizations and “research.”8

FACT: Barack Obama supported a proposal to ban gun stores within 5 miles of a school or park, which would eliminate almost every gun store in America.9

FACT: Barack Obama voted not to notify gun owners when the state of Illinois did records searches on them.10

FACT: Barack Obama voted against a measure to lower the Firearms Owners Identification card age minimum from 21 to 18, a measure designed to assist young people in the military.11

FACT: Barack Obama favors a ban on standard capacity magazines.12

FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory micro-stamping.13

FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory waiting periods.2

FACT: Barack Obama supports repeal of the Tiahrt Amendment, which prohibits information on gun traces collected by the BATFE from being used in reckless lawsuits against firearm dealers and manufacturers.14

FACT: Barack Obama supports one-gun-a-month sales restrictions.9

FACT: Barack Obama supports a ban on inexpensive handguns.9

FACT: Barack Obama supports a ban on the resale of police issued firearms, even if the money is going to police departments for replacement equipment.9

FACT: Barack Obama supports mandatory firearm training requirements for all gun owners and a ban on gun ownership for persons under the age of 21.9

FactCheck.org: NRA targets Obama
http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/nra_targets_obama.html

NRA Targets Obama
September 22, 2008

It falsely claims in mailers and TV ads that Obama plans to ban handguns, hunting ammo and use of a gun for home defense.

Summary

A National Rifle Association advertising campaign distorts Obama's position on gun control beyond recognition.

The NRA is circulating printed material and running TV ads making unsubstantiated claims that Obama plans to ban use of firearms for home defense, ban possession and manufacture of handguns, close 90 percent of gun shops and ban hunting ammunition.

Much of what the NRA passes off as Obama's "10 Point Plan to 'Change' the Second Amendment" is actually contrary to what he has said throughout his campaign: that he "respects the constitutional rights of Americans to bear arms" and "will protect the rights of hunters and other law-abiding Americans to purchase, own, transport, and use guns."

The NRA, however, simply dismisses Obama's stated position as "rhetoric" and substitutes its own interpretation of his record as a secret "plan." Said an NRA spokesman: "We believe our facts."

Perhaps so, but believing something doesn't make it so. And we find the NRA has cherry-picked, twisted and misrepresented Obama's record to come up with a bogus "plan."

Even if you wants to go with factcheck it's still clear that Obama is more anti-constitution than McCain when it comes to the 2nd ammendment.

I find it hilarious that we cant judge Barack Hussein Obama on his past anti gun voting record and statements he has made but that we are now to believe he has done a 180 on all that.

Subject: Time to put the heat on your Senators as Sotomayor hearings begin.

Should We be Surprised by Sotomayor's Radical Views?

"I will be talking [to Judge Sotomayor] about the question of
foreign law and the question of [her] commitment to the Second
Amendment, the right to keep and bear arms.... President Obama, who
nominated Judge Sotomayor, has a rather limited view of what the Second
Amendment guarantees." -- Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), June 2009

Monday, July 13, 2009
Today, the U.S. Senate commences hearings on Justice Sonia Sotomayor,
who was nominated by President Obama to replace the retiring Judge
David Souter on the U.S. Supreme Court.
In many ways, Sotomayor's views are out-of-step with our American
heritage and with the views of Americans in general. For example,
Sotomayor believes that our fundamental law is constantly evolving and
that rights are constantly changing with the times.

But should we be surprised? The President who nominated her holds some
of the most radical views ever held by a resident of the White House.
His take on the Constitution -- and the Second Amendment in particular
-- has stationed him to the far left on the political spectrum.

Consider just a small snapshot of his record over the years:
* As President, Obama has nationalized much of the car and banking
industry and is now looking to do the same with health care. Even the
Marxist President of Venezuela, Hugo Chavez, joked on live television
last month that he and Fidel Castro need to be careful or else "we
are going to end up to [Obama's] right."
* As a U.S. Senator, Obama was ranked by the National Journal in 2007
as the most liberal legislator in that chamber. Realize that such a
ranking put Obama to the left of 99 other Senators -- including an
open, self-avowed socialist, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
* Like many socialists, Obama has supported some of the most extreme
positions on gun control: supporting a ban on handguns, opposing the
repeal of the draconian DC gun ban, opposing the right of self-defense
for residents in the Chicago suburbs, and much more.

Obama's brand of far-left politics sees the Constitution as moldable a
a ball of wax. In a 2001 interview, he criticized earlier Supreme
Courts for "never ventur[ing] into the issues of redistribution of
wealth.... It didn't break free from the essential constraints that
were placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution."

Sotomayor appears to have the same view of our highest document, as she
stated in 1996 that law is not "static and predictable," but
"constantly overhaul[ed] and adapt[ed] [by lawyers and courts] to
the realities of ever-changing social, industrial and political
conditions."

ACTION: Please urge your two Senators to vote AGAINST the Sotomayor
nomination. Tell them to cast a pro-gun vote on EVERY vote related to
Judge Sonia Sotomayor (whether it's a vote on sustaining a filibuster
or a vote on final passage).

Please use the Gun Owners Legislative Action Center at
http://www.gunowners.org/activism.htm to send your legislators the

pre-written e-mail message below.

----- Pre-written letter -----

Dear Senator:

Judge Sonia Sotomayor's views are out-of-step with our American
heritage and with the views of Americans in general. Not surprisingly,
the Rasmussen polling firm reported on July 1 that more Americans
oppose her nomination than support her.

Sotomayor believes that our fundamental law is constantly evolving and
that rights are constantly changing with the times. But a majority of
Americans disagree. Multiple polls have found that almost
three-fourths of all Americans believe that the Second Amendment of the
U.S. Constitution protects the rights of "individuals" to own
guns. Not so for Judge Sotomayor:
* She ruled in United States v. Sanchez-Villar (2004) that "the
right to possess a gun is clearly not a fundamental right."

* And earlier this year, Sotomayor was part of a three-judge panel
which ruled in Maloney v. Cuomo that the Second Amendment does not
apply to the states. This makes her more liberal than the Ninth
Circuit, which stated in the Nordyke case in April that the Second
Amendment does apply to the states.
Please cast a pro-gun vote on EVERY vote related to Judge Sonia
Sotomayor (whether it's a vote on sustaining a filibuster or a vote on
final passage).

Drivel?? banning private ownership of handguns is drivel, making it a crime to defend yourself is drivel? doing away with the very succesful shall issue laws that most states now have is drival. Have you read the list of Barackos votes at the beginning of this thread?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Barack Obama’s gun control policy, or should I write anti-gun record is long and informative:

1994 to 2001 - Obama was on the board of the anti-gun Joyce Foundation. This foundation is the largest funding source for radical anti-gun groups in the country.
1996 - Obama supported a ban on the manufacture, sale and possession of handguns.

1999 - Obama proposed a 500 percent increase in the excise taxes on firearms and ammunition. This tax would effectively punish gun owners for buying guns and ammunition.
2003 - Obama voted in support of legislation that would have banned privately owned hunting shotguns, target rifles and black powder rifles in Illinois.
2004 - Obama voted against legislation intended to protect homeowners from prosecution in cases where they used a firearm to halt a home invasion. Barack Obama now claims he is not anti-gun ownership. His campaign has put out statements saying he supports law abiding citizens’ right to own certain types of guns used for particular purposes. In fact, his campaign says that he’ll uphold the Second Amendment. His voting record belies what he now claims, that as President he would be no threat to American gun owners.

Just a few months ago, the Supreme Court shot down the D.C. gun ban. It was a 5-4 decision. What would it have been with Obama appointing Justices to the Supreme Court?

Its hard to trust a man will uphold the Constitution when he very recently stated that the Constitution is fundamentally flawed.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When it comes to the very succesful shall issue laws that most states have passed heres old Barcako once again showing his antigun nonsense.
Obama Comes Out Against Concealed Carry
by Amanda Carpenter

Barack Obama is embracing anti-gun policies in the run-up to a Democratic presidential debate scheduled on the one-year anniversary of the Virginia Tech shootings.

“I am not in favor of concealed weapons,” or concealed carry laws Obama told the Pittsburgh Tribune. “I think that creates a potential atmosphere where more innocent people could (get shot during) altercations
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He has proven time and again he is against the private ownership of handguns which most people who carry for self protection use. I guess under your theory as long as we are left with single shot 22 rifles everything is ok? See he didnt ban ALL guns. Rolling Eyes
