Topic: A New Flint Budget Crisis on the Horizon?

At the last council committee meeting two important issues came up. First there are departments already over budget with less than six months into this fiscal year. Second, Walling and Greg Eason have not sought council approval on some appointmtnts that require such approval.

The budget was in lace before Walling was elected so some of these ppointments may not be in the budget.

That would probably include the new "Director of Neighborhood Services" at 80K per year.
Not really a problem; just cut public safety more. Right, Josh?

Recall? Who is the "chief planner" as required by the charter?

Why can we not get a literate mayor who can follow the rules?

Mayor Walling said he wants a team of 8 for city planning. I am told Brown may have made up to $3 million in cuts to the budget following projections of possible lost revenue for this year. Walling cannot keep adding to the top of his admiistration and maintain the budget.

These positions and their high salaries were probably not budgeted. At the December 9th meeting it was affirmed that some departments are already over budget. We are less than 6 months into the budget year. I can't wait until the mid-year budget review in January.

From Wallings 100 days in office speech:

These accomplishments would not be possible without the dedication and hard work of every city employee, the union leadership, Flint City Council, members of boards and commissions, many dedicated public and private partners, community volunteers, and the administration’s leadership (in alphabetical order):

Dayne Walling, Mayor
Gregory Eason, City Administrator
Tracy Atkinson, DCED/Major Grants
Peter Bade, City Attorney
Doug Bingaman, Treasurer
Arnold Brown, Sanitation Supervisor
Mike Brown, Water Svc. Center Supervisor
Bob Erlenbeck, Risk Management
William Fowler, Assessments
Patrick Gerace, Neighborhood Services Director
Dawn Jones, Communications Director
Derrick Jones, Purchasing Director
Alvern Lock, Public Safety Director & Chief of Police
Cleora Magee, Acting Human Relations Director
Rhoda Matthews, Citizen Services Director
Tom McCabe, Public Works Director
Steve Montle, Green Cities Coordinator
Kay Muhammad, Trans. and Dev. Superintendent
Maxine Murray, Mayor’s Administrative Assistant
Donna Poplar, Human Resources Director
David Solis, Director of Governmental Policy
Stephen Todd, 9-1-1 Administrator
Michael Townsend, Finance and Budget Director
June Urdy, Receptionist/Administrative Assistant
Dandre Williams, Fire Chief

Isn't a Neighborhood Services Director and a Citizens Service Director somewhat redundant.

Also word from a community person who called HUD is that Tracy Atkinson is not acceptable to HUD. Nancy Jurkiewicz has been asked to return and has declined. Flint will not be able to abuse her like Brown did ever again.
