If I understood him, have one elected executive that would appoint all the other positions. Lots of checks & balances there.

El Supremo

My understanding is that a number of these elected positions could function well under department heads as it is the deputyspositions and assistants that are doing the work now.

Its ironic to hear Carr and Kildee at the ends of their public jobs to call for the elimination of those jobs.

Economic interest are in play to cause the creation of "County Executive". Daniel Kildee has gone to work for major economic interests and he is the best overall candidate for County Executive. Reducing the number of County Department heads would give the County Executive/Daniel Kildee/Major Economic interests more power and you less.

Right now everyone can scream "economic interest" until they are blue in the face...to be blunt.

But first and foremost, one has to consider a plethora of things. We are NOT in any, way shape or form like Oakland County. Just because, certain people wish to mimic a good idea does not make it one. In the past when this idea has come up, it is always mapped after the Oakland County model. Won't work.

Then you have people like Mrs. Bogardus, whose feathers get ruffled at the drop of a hat over her corner of the county.

Lack of representation in the long run will be dismissed. We elect people to represent us that we deem qualified to do the job. If people are appointed by virtue of who knows who, my representation is lost. If all of the people that are appointed are from Flint and the northern part of Genesee County, how would they know my needs from the Southern part of the county.

People can scream economic interest but a lot of mistakes have been made with ideas that are touted as saving money and not looking at the whole picture....

<insert facepalm here>
