Named ‘Misinformer’ of 2009
by Ann Murray-Yavar
Dec 23rd, 2009 | 1:14 PM | Comments 480
Media Matters For America has named Fox News anchor Glenn Beck the ‘2009 Misinformer of the Year.’

The organization cited Beck’s “disturbing use of race and race-baiting” (which caused 80 advertisers to drop their ads from his show), “red scare” strategies of calling leading political figures communists, popularizing Sarah Palin’s use of the term “death panels” in the health-care debate, fostering comparisons between the current administration and Nazi Germany, as well as encouraging “violent, anti-government rhetoric” and a belief and support of “wild conspiracies.”

“Each year, Media Matters has the difficult task of determining which media figure has been the most prolific and influential purveyor of conservative misinformation,” Media Matters president Eric Burns said in a statement. “But this year, our choice was easy. Glenn Beck’s paranoid conspiracy theories, disturbing use of race and race-baiting, and tea-party cheerleading made him a shoo-in for Misinformer of the Year for 2009.”

Media Matters, which was launched in 2004 by journalist and author David Brock, describes itself as a “not-for-profit, 501(c)(3) progressive research and information center dedicated to comprehensively monitoring, analyzing, and correcting conservative misinformation in the U.S. media.” The organization utilizes content analysis, fact-checking, and media-monitoring to track the American media arena.

Glenn Beck is the host of ‘The Glenn Beck Program’ on Fox News. He is a former Top 40 Radio DJ, author and publisher, and former CNN anchor.

Adam, BA is not able to answer you intelligently. He depends on smiley faces in a weak attempt to look witty. BA, what point are you trying to make? And please, try to answer it with fewer than two smiley faces of some sort. I know it will be hard for you. And no, I don't give points for being a minority to you. Now proceed in your attempt.

Ah, twotap, making the good points - he "nails" liberals to the wall, alright. Except that he doesn't make a whole lot of sense, makes that craziest accusations and is little more than entertainment (as Faux has observed themselves by admitting that during the hours he is on they do not consider it "news"... otherwise they're "objective" normally, ha). Twotaps only response is, "Liberals complain and whine, even though that's what I do everyday I come here and post a dozen thinks again the liberal conspiracy against all of us conservatives waaaaaaaaah."

Honestly. That man doesn't have a factual bone in his body. The only thing that bothers me is that he has an audience - it is deeply disturbing that the human mind can be so warped as to find him entertaining or "accurate."

I caught Glen Beck when he started his show so I was surprised recently to see what appeared to de a definite decline in his psychological well being. Also the fact finding organizations were declaring many of his statements as blatant lies. He even had problems as a guest on the VIEW.

I have done a lot of research on ACORN and I am ashamed that this organization is an accepted vehcle for the Democratic Party.

If shtf I think a lot of Americans will be less "psychologically sound". The "housing crisis" appears to be far from over along with the "jobs crisis".

You are right Adam. The criminality behind the original housing crisis will leave a lasting impact.

I don't see the housing crisis as being criminal because it was promoted by the USSA government. In a Socialist economy it makes sense to give out loans when the private Federal Reserve is promoting easy money and the feds were also requiring lenders to give away free houses to poor people. The feds did a good job of helping to create this crisis and are doing an even worse job trying to fix it.

And of course we once again have the stench of a rotten ACORN involved.
