Adam, the AK has a couple drawbacks - over penetration, and accuracy. You'd be better off with a shotgun with an 18" barrel. Inside the home, I'd suggest birdshot; it's just as deadly as buckshot at close ranges & won't penetrate through walls 7 hit what's on the other side. If you're dead set on an AK, check Dunham's sporting goods; they usually have a few Romanian AK's in stock. Also, Guns Galore in Fenton.

Oh gosh an AK Oh no the antigun Obama libs will tell you that just being near one puts you, your wife, kids neighbors in extreme danger. The round it fires is SO powerful that nothing can stand in its way and of course it can fire about 500 of those rounds in one minute and can do it on its own without notice. I keep mine in a steel gunsafe and open the door only to peek at it occasionaly. Like a State police lieutenant told my wife before shall issue was passed, "Young lady all you need is a cell phone to be safe".

Have someone call us on your cell phone after you're shot & we'll have someone come out & pick up your body.
AK - some people spray & pray. I prefer to place my shots accurately.

I stood up at that gunboard meeting that was taken over by this lieutenant and asked this arogant jerk what his wife had for protection his reply of course a cell phone. YA RIGHT He also told everyone at that meeting that traveling alone to flint or detroit was not a valid reason for a female wanting a permit. Couple months after that right to carry passed and this jerks opinon mattered none. What was funny was 4 years before that I was granted an unrestricted carry permit by the sheriff and my wife was kicking herself for not applying at that time.

So about that private militia concept??? It's obvious Flint will have even less semblance of a police force. I wonder what percentage of residents would be willing to pay per call and how much per call to actually have a laid off police officer respond instead of calling 911 and not having one not respond or show up hours later to possibly count the bodies.
Flint like a lot of cities states and the USSA government is bascially crumbling so things should continue to get worse before they get better.
I predict Flint will have trouble even funding
ANY
police force in 5-10 years unless it declares bankruptcy and basically kills off union pensions.

Wow! $300 to call 911. I hope Dayne doesn't find out about this or he would really be able t! drop our official crime rate way more than just getting rid of 33% of our police.

Bird shot at close range ? Not the best if the person shooting at you is wearing thick clothing.,you need at least 12" penetration in bal. gel,( #1 buck or larger.)Low recoil rounds in a Remington 870,Moss. 500 or 590, or a s/s 12g.
As to the AK's,I've shot a few, here and in Russia.Once behind a Police station south of Moscow with a Russian cop.We were both realy drunk on Vodka .He was driving. But that's another story. In an urban situation I agree that over penetration could be a significant hazard.Best stay with the scattergun..

Shotguns are good defensive weapons Crowfeeder, but not the type used for hunting, i suggest something with a shorter barrell ( still legal length, we don't want them anti gun Dems panties in a bunch) . But I think for urban settings a handgun is the best option, using hollow points to prevent over penetration . Hanguns are the best weapon if you don't want to actually kill the person because handgun ammo is typically not a one shot stopper. Sure can make them bleed and do some damage but lots of people are shot with handguns and still pull through ( which can be a good or bad thing) .
Personally I think the AK 47 is overrated. The controls suck and I dunno, the whole thing of using a commie weapon goes against my grain. I perfer the FN-FAL in .308.
And if they do want to start charging us for answering 911 calls purchasing a handgun may ( in some hoods) be more give you more "band per buck" ( the pun is not intended but sort of funny anyway) . Get a Charter Arms Undercover for about 389.00 and be able to take care of business yourself and when you compare that with just making one 911 call at 300.00 per call and it is a money saver .
But hey, we may not have a police force but Dayne sure will impress outsiders with his 85K per year Communications person, and we all know first impressions are so important, right?
