Topic: Do Career Fairs offer Real Jobs?

Is it just me or has it become commonplace for job fairs to not offer real jobs? I went to the Criminal Justice Fair at Mott Community College and I was told repeatedly that agencies were not hiring.

Here's the thing, if the organizations aren't hiring, why call it a job fair?

They seem to consist of:

Military (if you don't mind risking your life to fight a unjust war)
Local agencies (that don't hire)
Federal (if you don't mind working for a corrupted government)
Colleges (Who are not hiring, but wants to offer tens of thousands of dollars in debt.)

I even did a video on this...

Demcad,

The last job fairs I have been to the companies that are there are:

Trying to sell you more school. Nothing but debt and wasted time came out of the first 4 years and unless their school issues full refunds if you can't find a decent job after completion-no thanks.

Trying to get you to sell stuff on commission. Yeah, that will work out great since everyone else is broke too!

Not currently hiring. So why are you wasting my time?

Looking for interns. Yeah, I want to work for free because you are too cheap to hire a file clerk when you get busy for a few months.

I have stopped attending job fairs for that reason. They are not worth the drive or energy.

I have been entertaining the idea of expatriation though.

Exactly. if I have a Bachelor's degree and can't find a job, why would I want to go into debt to get more of something that is useless?

So, Demcad, you're not a glut for punishment either?

If I went back for any reason, it would be something in the medical field. Nurses make bank and that only requires an associates degree. My cousin had a job lined up before she even graduated. It's been coming down the wire though that they are going to start requiring bachelor's degrees. I wonder which universities lobbied for that? They smelled that money train coming.

Unfortunately, I can't stand the sight of any of that stuff and would fail my clinical the first time I fainted of puked on a patient. It would happen often. I have seriously been wondering if I could suck it up long enough to get through the program.

medical fields are always hiring. I wish I had a stronger stomach.

New Rules for Job Fairs

1. No more Colleges soliciting money.
2. Ban Organizations that are not actively hiring.

Just a thought.
