FLINT, Michigan -- A Flint Police officer shot a home invasion suspect in the leg around 9 a.m. today on Seneca and Concord streets, said chief Alvern Lock.
Flint Police were called to an in-progress robbery at a home of a 94-year-old woman, police said. When police arrived on scene one of the suspects, a male teenager, shot and missed at an officer. The officer returned fire and chased after the suspect, Lock said.
The suspect then pointed a gun at the officer and the officer fired and hit the suspect in the leg. The suspect was taking to the hospital, Lock said.
There were four suspects -- three male, one female -- that were arrested. All were teenagers, Lock said.

FLINT, Michigan — The 94-year-old woman who's house was broken into said she was sleeping when four teenagers broke into her house.
Police responded to the Lizzie Winfrey's home on Seneca and Concord streets on a home invasion call and subsequently shot one of the male suspects in the leg outside the home, said chief Alvern Lock.
"I just thank God for the police," said Winfrey.
Police arrested four teenagers — three males and one females — at the scene, Lock said. The suspect who was shot was taken to the hospital.
The suspect who was shot fled out of the house and fired a gun shot at the police officer, missing him. The officer fired back and took off running after the suspect. The suspect pointed a gun at the officer and the officer fired, hitting him in the leg.
Winfrey's son, Charles Winfrey, said his mother was fine.
"She's just nervous," Winfrey said. "She's just kind of shook up right now."
Charles Winfrey said he was trying to start a crime watch for the area after several break-ins were occuring in the neighborhood.
"I never really imagined it was going to hit so close to home," said Winfrey, 68.

Crime watches are fine when there are police officers available to respond to the calls. Unfortunately, in a couple weeks, we won't have any. |

As this story was unfolding, I could not help but think of the elderly lady shot on Leland near Fenton Rd. This could easily have been similar if the woman had woken up during the robbery.
Amazing the police were able to resolve this crime in time. |

Two shootings at once, no problem. Send one car to each - all we'll have - then wait for other officers to be called in. Of course, when comp time for all the overtime kicks in we won't have any officers on the street. |
