Flint store burglarized twice in three days

FLINT, Michigan — A Dort Highway store was burglarized Saturday for the second time in three days, according to two police reports.
The owner told police he was contacted by the alarm company at 2:15 a.m. Saturday and that he found a second floor window broken out at the business on North Dort Highway near Richfield Road.
Seven books of lottery tickets, Newport cigarettes, cigars and about $50 were taken from the store, according to the report.
Three days earlier, police were called to the same location by the alarm company just after midnight Wednesday and found one window open and another broken, according to an earlier police report.
Potato chips and cigarettes were stolen in that burglary. Surveillance footage showed two males wearing hoodies and jeans enter and steal from the store. |

Window busted in vehicle, purse stolen in Flint

FLINT, Michigan -- A purse was stolen from a vehicle sometime on Sunday from a group home on Carpenter Road near Saginaw Street, according to a police report.
A window was busted out to get inside, according to the report. The purse was sitting underneath the passenger seat.
There was $120 cash, credit cards and a driver's license taken, according to the report.
There was no suspect information. |

Flint firefighters respond to two arson fires, third fire under investigation

FLINT, Michigan -- Flint firefighters responded to two arson fires overnight and a third fire is under investigation, officials said.
The first fire was around 10 p.m. on Milbourne Avenue near Pasadena Avenue. Fire officials said the home was being renovated and piles of building material were set on fire.
The house received minimal damage, officials said.
Firefighters then responded to a fire around 11 p.m. in the basement of a building at Evergreen Regency Apartments. Officials said it appeared someone set an area on fire, but damage was minimal. The building was occupied but there were no injuries.
Crews also responded to a fire around 4:30 a.m. on Welch Boulevard near Dayton Street. The house suffered extensive damage, officials said.
The cause is under investigation. There were no injuries.

Homicide suspect could be responsible for several Flint shooting this year, Chief Alvern Lock says

FLINT, Michigan — Damien Dionta Jackson, 18, could be responsible for several shootings that have occurred in the city this year, Public Safety Director Alvern Lock said in a press conference today.
Jackson was arrested in Flint on Monday around 3 p.m. for the March 20 killing of Donnell Howard, said Sgt. Cynthia Herfert.
He's been charged with open murder, possession of a concealed weapon and felony firearm, according to the Genesee County Prosecutor's office.
"We're looking at Mr. Jackson as a possible suspect in several other shootings and possibly homicides this year," said Lock.
Lock would not say which or how many shootings Jackson is also suspected in.
Howard, 23, was found shot to death inside a car that crashed on White Street near King Avenue around 7 p.m. March 20.
It was the third homicide that day.
City officials held the press conference following another string of shootings that left five people dead in the past five days.

Lock said there have been arrests in 14 of the 21 homicides that have occurred this year.
"One hundred percent would be good," Lock said. "If we've got any that are unsolved, that's a problem."
He said a tip from the community led to Jackson's arrest.
"Community tips are what lead to arrests and arrests are what lead to a safer community," Lock said.
Anyone with information on any of the homicides is asked to call the detective bureau at 810-237-6901 or Crime Stoppers at 800-422-5245.

| There were 3 shots fired at West Court & Ballenger at 3:40 pm last Sunday afternoon. I called 911 and they inquired if anyone was hit/down. I told them no one was screaming and that I saw nobody on the ground and they responed they would send a car to investigate if they (an Officer) were available later. No patrol ever checked this out to my knowledge. Thanks for the security Walling and FPD. It must be my tax dollars at work (sleep). I had to check my home for bullet holes later that day. None found this time...but after two murders within 200 to 1000 yards from my home in just 4 months, I am (as always) armed and dangerous for all the right reasons. We must take this city back! |

| You're not alone. There were 20+ shots fired in the 2400 block of Chevrolet, near Dayton, the other day, around 4pm. Several people called 911 & a cruiser drove down the block 2 1/2 hours later. |

20-year-old man arrested after shootout Monday in Flint Township

FLINT TOWNSHIP, Michigan — A 20-year-old Flint man was arrested for weapons and drug charges after a shootout around 4 a.m. Monday at a home on Carmanwood Drive near Bristol Road.
Police received a call about shots fired at the home. Police said shots were fired into the home and people inside the home fired shots back. No one was injured, police said. About 5 to 10 shots were fired, police said.
The man, who was in the home, was arrested. Police found an undisclosed amount of marijuana in the home. |

Northside Flint business owners, residents to protest discrimination of police protection

FLINT, Michigan — Northside business owners and residents will meet at the location of a recent homicide to protest what they see as a "discrimination of police protection by city officials."
The group will meet at 11 a.m. Friday at the Marathon gas station at the corner of Fleming and Pierson, where 20-year-old Antonio L. Stark was gunned down.
There have been 21 homicides so far this year, well above last year's total.

The big question is why did Judge Farah accept the plea bargain for Chris Whitaker and allow the charges to be reduced from armed robbery to unarmed robbery. It was a brutal assault with gang connotations. The young man was also charged in another robbery and may have been involved in more. He told court he was living with his mother,a statement his mother denied. He was 17 and tried as an adult.
HOW MANY MORE SIMILAR STORIES ARE THERE? For this he gets one year in jail and he knew enough to lobby for possible early release. What happened to the mandatory time in prison for a weapon?

Flint man arrested in Swartz Creek for multiple offenses

SWARTZ CREEK, Michigan — A 23-year-old Flint man was cited for traffic violations and, pending the results of lab tests, could be charged with possession and intent to sell heroin.
An officer stopped the man’s vehicle at 7:35 p.m. April 2 on I-69 near Morrish Road for an expired license plate and improper license plate, according to police reports.
When the officer asked for the man’s driver’s license, he said he didn’t have it with him.
The man struggled when the officer removed him from the vehicle. As he was being handcuffed, the officer observed the man drop a small plastic bag and attempt to kick it under the vehicle, according to police reports.
The officer retrieved the bag, which contained four individually wrapped gray rocks. When he asked the driver what was in the bag, the man said it was heroin, according to reports.
The man was cited for never having applied for a driver’s license and having an improper license plate. He was lodged in the Genesee County Jail and the vehicle was impounded. Charges of possession and intent to distribute heroin are pending lab results, according to police reports.
The man also had two misdemeanor warrants for traffic offenses.

An added danger to living in Flint is the high number of unlicensed and uninsured drivers on the road. The unusual amount of impudence leads to greater odds of being victimized in otherwise minor traffic incidents, not to mention bad accidents. The average of 17 out of a hundred illegal drivers statewide is why Michigan drivers pay the highest premiums for auto insurance in America today. Flint drivers are statistically much higher in the 'illegal drivers per hundred' area. Too bad more traffic police can't deal with this anomaly, but then, where would all these lawbreakers be housed? At least they get a few off the road whom they pull over finding drugs or other bigger violations of the law. Still, so many people on the road without legal permission is a threat to the rest of us.

You'd think that word would spread around Flint that when you're coming to Meri-Dan or Burkeshire to drop off some dope, you'd at least drive a car with all it's lights working and it's license plate on the bumper instead of in the back window. Nothing screams "I'm from Flint" like a license plate in the back window of your car.
It is no wonder he was drivingh with no license. Lisia Williams, former head of Acorn, drove many many years with no license or a suspended license with few consequences. This issue needs to be corrected. |

Arrest of homicide suspect brings little comfort to victim's grandmother

FLINT, Michigan — Mary Howard once had high hopes for her grandson Donnell.
“He had a very high IQ, and I was just hoping he’d become a lawyer or doctor or something,” she said, beginning to cry. “Sadly, it happened this way."
Donnell Howard, 23, was found shot to death inside a car that crashed on White Street near King Avenue around on March 20. It was the third homicide in the city that day.
On Monday, police arrested Damien D. Jackson, 18, for the homicide.
And Police Chief Alvern Lock said Jackson could be responsible for several other shootings this year.
“He’s going to have to account for what he did wrong,” Mary Howard, 71, said about Jackson.
“People shouldn’t have to go through this, all the mothers and the families. I really feel bad. I sympathize with the other families.”
This year, 21 people have been killed in Flint. At this time last year, that number was 8.
"It doesn't make sense, why all this senseless kiling is going on," said Howard. "I don't think anybody deserves to have this happen to them."
Lock would not say how many shootings police believe Jackson could be responsible for

Fenton Police seeing young people traveling out of city to get drugs

FENTON, Michigan -- Fenton Police Chief Rick Aro told parents tonight at a drug awareness presentation that area youth are going out of the city to get those drugs.
The Fenton area has seen a few heroin-related deaths over the last few months.
Detective Ron Skarzynski said teenagers are venturing out more into Flint than they used to. He credits advancements in technology that takes them in to the area, that before might have scared them from going to.
Aro said the police department is working on creating a phone number that Fenton students can text to give tips on drug abuse.
"It's a way students can text our police department," Aro said.

Holy moly, pretty soon they'll be driving from Linden and Holly to Flint to get drugs. Come on coppers, this has been going on even before there was technology (GPS) to get them where they are going. You aren't telling parents anything they don't already know. They also did it when they were teenagers. Cops are so stupid.

Maybe parents really have become that complacent and ignorant and need a refresher. The other article here tonight stresses the importance of talking to your kids about drugs (no schmidt, really?), staying connected and understanding that things like burnt spoons and a sleepy, unresponsive child may be signs that s/he is doing drugs. Ya think?
Sheesh, that advice was around in the 50s and 60s.
But I suppose if this whole endeavor saves just one life blah blah blah.

Wait till the Fenton, Holly, Linden, and Grand Blanc boys and girls start dying. And I don't mean from OD. Flint is a dangerous town, let alone to play the drug game. They (dealers) are waiting for your non street sense, reckless trust of "my boy Q. Tip" on the corner to hit there turf. Then you belong to them. If you make it out. Don't worry about an OD. Worry about a bullet and a your lifeless body for that fifty. Trust me on this one. Parents talk to your children.

It's never a problem until the little boys and girls from Fenton, Grand Blanc, and the surrounding suburbs start dropping dead. NEWS FLASH: these are the dealers best customers. With their $500 a week allowances we wait for them to come into town to get their money. And not only do we take their allowances we take the Mom's jewelry and dad's pistols. So yea, parents talk to your kids lol raise their allowances and buy more jewelery!!

thats pretty lame.. for two reasons. 1... Fenton Police are saying its a problem for Fenton residents. Nothing wrong with that. 2. It's not like much will be done about it anyways- like others have said, its been going on and will continue going on. Hell, I live in an area even further than the few cities you listed.. I'm in the Ortonville/Oxford/LakeOrion/Clarkston area and know plenty of people for years who have gone to Flint for their drug of choice. It's simple too.. set everything up by phone.. pull into you guys house, or meet him in the mall parking lot or somewhere public, drive back home. You've left your house, got drugs, and within an hour you're back to your safe middle class/country living home. |
