Topic: Master plan safety group-no gangs only youth cliques

Flint has, by last count, at least 25 recognized gangs or groups that meet the law enforcement definition of gangs. Yey this group assigned to explore the safety and welfare of our city assert there are no organized gangs only "youth cliques".

Therefore, the solution of these social worker types and lay people is that we need to study the social causes of the unrest around the city. These people are clueless. Jim Richardson and Denise Smith Allen are among the leader of the group.

It seems that at last months meeting they named Lynne Waybright as a "conveignor", a fancy term for meeting coordinator. At this meeting they stripped her of the title and claimed they did not know she had signed up and been named for the position. Sure and pigs fly! But that could be a good thing as Lynne now does not have to conform to being a good conveignor and can speak her mind about the ignorance being conveyed within the group.

Why would someone from the group have to go to Los Angeless to study the problem and it's solutions? We have experts here in law enforcement that have a better understanding of the issues than this hand picked group of idiots. At least they are idiots in my mind. Carl Taylor is a Michigan author and expert on gangs and you won't hear him call them youth cliques.

A number of years ago a group of African American youth trashed the De waters Art Institute and did a great deal of damage. The community helped repay the damage and the young people were placed on a diviersion plan. All but one succeeded in the diversion. The rest went on to become professionals including doctors, lawyers and politicians. The attitude of the community was these were a misguided youth group and not a gang action.

Move forward to the rise of the Cobras on the East side. When a crime watch coordinator went to the administrator and told them this group was different, more organized and out of Chicago, she was ridiculed. The administration told her they were just "youth groups" and Flint had no gangs. Later the gangs decided she was a threat and they attempted to kill her. The Prosecutor almost blew the case against the gang enforcer when the girlfriend of "Poppo", a leader of the Cobras under indictment, tried to malign the victim while the prosecution and allegedly the detective did not even know who the girlfriend was.

There was a whole series of missing women on the east side and they have never been found. One disappeared from a bar after going to a restroom and even left her purse behind. Others disappeared from their homes in mid day. The son of a Lapeer County prison guard told a story of a youn man being forcibly taken by this alleged gang enforcer and never being seen again. Oddly women stopped disappearing when the alleged enforcer went to prison.

The Ricco case against the Cobras sent many to prison. Their leadership was straight out of Chicago and kids on the east side had to pay dues and follow the orgaization rules. They are returning now and their running fueds and enterprises are being re-established.

The area Crip groups are called by mant to be "Fake Crips" and "false flaggers" as they only loosely use the name of the national group. They may have their own rules, but they are said to not have the affiliation.

This Master Planning Safety Group thinks the Cobras were the only organized gang ever in Flint and that they were crushed.

So while this group studies the social cause of these "youth cliques", the inequities in the educational institutions and the job creation systems will continue. And as I said before, there is always a job in the gang.

I recently read an article that a large number of college graduates are in jobs they are over qualified for and many end up in menial jobs. what Flint needs is an education system that works without a bloated administration. Then we need job training programs for jobs that don't necessarily need a college education.

And when federal money comes into the area intended to boost the local economy, then let it truly help the local economy by hiring local workers.

Pastor Flynn said on his radio show that a group of pastors went to the current administration to solicit money foor the north end. He stated the were told the money was all for downtown.

How is the north end and other poverty stricken neighborhoods supposed to respond when millions go to downtown and two small grants ($25,000 and $27,000) are designated to teach residents how to clean up their blocks. As though these same groups haven't been already cleaning up their neighborhoods for years.

By now you should be aware that the only areas that matter are downtown, Hurley & the "Cultural area". The powers that be couldn't care less about those of us outside those named above.

Dave, when there is nothing more to plunder in the north end, downtown will look good to the gangs.

The prediction is 20,000 residents will leave flint before 2020 and that figure includes 1,000 school age children. Most of those leaving will move to the suburbs. many well meaning parents do not realize how exposed their children already are to the gang culture and the culture is also relocated.

Many in the north end believe this 20,000 figure is low and anticipate even higher numbers. Since we barely squeaked by the 100,000 threshold in the last audit, what impact will this have on future revenues from the federal government?

When I think about Flint's future I find my self humming a line from one of james taylor's early songs. As I sing "Suzanne, the plans they made brought an end to you," I am thinking that it is the GOP plans that are bringing an end to Flint.

Speech News- Commentary and opinion are protected by the first amendment.

Minn. high court: Online review is protected speech

Associated Press

Wire Report

First Amendment Center Vanderbilt University

MINNEAPOLIS — A man’s online post calling a doctor “a real tool” is protected speech, the Minnesota Supreme Court ruled yesterday.

The state’s highest court dismissed a case by Duluth neurologist David McKee, who took offense when a patient’s son posted critical remarks about him on rate-your-doctor websites. Those remarks included a claim that a nurse called the doctor “a real tool,” slang for stupid or foolish.

The decision reversed a Minnesota Court of Appeals ruling that would have let the doctor’s lawsuit proceed to trial.

The opinion, written by Justice Alan Page, said the comments posted by Dennis Laurion don’t add up to defamation because they’re opinions that are entitled to free-speech protections.
“Referring to someone as ‘a real tool’ falls into the category of pure opinion because the term ‘real tool’ cannot be reasonably interpreted as stating a fact and it cannot be proven true or false. … We conclude that it is an opinion amounting to ‘mere vituperation and abuse’ or ‘rhetorical hyperbole’ that cannot be the basis for a defamation action,” the justices said.

The ruling also said it doesn’t matter whether the unnamed nurse actually exists. McKee’s attorney argued that Laurion might have fabricated the nurse, something Laurion’s attorney denied. And it said the doctor’s objections to Laurion’s other comments also failed the required legal tests.

The case highlighted the tension that sometimes develops on ratings sites, such as Yelp and Angie’s List, when the free-speech rights of patients clash with the rights of doctors, lawyers and other professionals to protect their good names.

Experts say lawsuits over negative professional reviews are relatively uncommon and rarely succeed, partly because the law favors freedom of speech.

This dispute was over how McKee treated Laurion’s father, who had suffered a stroke, during a single hospital visit in 2010 that lasted 10 to 15 minutes. Laurion expressed his dismay in several online posts with what he considered the doctor’s insensitive manner.

“I’m sure he and his family are very happy with this result,” Laurion’s attorney, John Kelly, said. “It’s been a long and difficult process for them.”

McKee’s lawyer, Marshall Tanick, said he and McKee plan no further appeals and that they were disappointed with the ruling.

“We feel it gives individuals undue license to make disparaging and derogatory statements about these people, particularly doctors and other licensed professionals, on the Internet without much recourse,” Tanick said.

While the decision is not binding in other states, Kelly and Tanick agreed that it might influence how other courts would rule on similar questions. Kelly said lawyers often look at rulings from other jurisdictions when they put cases together, sometimes for leads or guidance.

“Certainly this is a cutting edge issue and I’m sure lawyers and courts in other jurisdictions will pay attention to this decision and give it the weight it deserves,” Tanick said.

Cyberbullying is the use of the Internet and related technologies to harm other people, in a deliberate, repeated, and hostile manner . As it has become more common in society, particularly among young people, legislation and awareness campaigns have arisen to combat it.

Calling a group "clueless" is an opinion. The individuals named are leaders of the group, and that information is neither false nor restricted information as the groups are open to the public. A one time commentary does not fall into the definition of "cyberbullying". If it were opinions printed in the Journal and other news media would be sued all of the time .
