5. Charter reforms
Along with the proposal for a transition advisory board, Walling said the Flint City Charter should be updated.
He called for charter reforms -- such as shrinking the city council, eliminating some department staffing requirements and reducing the number of mayoral appointees -- to be put on the November ballot.
He also said a charter review commission could be convened to review the entire charter for other updates. |

Good idea if they revise charter to get rid of mayor AND appointees altogether. Hire someone who is qualified to run the city like a business. |

The number of Mayoral Charter Appointees allowed under the current Charter did not stop Walling from having illegal appointees. Do you really think a new Charter will stop him in the future. As long as we have a Council that does not know the Charter and how to use the checks and balances written into the Charter, then updating it is a waste of money and time. |
