FLINT, MI – Jackson-based Consumers Energy will host a job fair in Flint on Saturday, Aug. 3, hoping to hire 144 new employees to help build and replace gas pipelines across the state.

There will also be a job fair in Battle Creek the same day.

The Flint job fair will take place at the Michigan Works building located at 711 N. Saginaw St. in Suite 300, while the Battle Creek fair will take place at the Michigan Works location at 135 W. Hamblin Ave.

Each fair will take place from 9-11 a.m. on Aug. 3.

Consumers said that the effort will help “strengthening its commitment to customer safety and expanding its workforce,” within the state of Michigan.

The company previously hired 150 people to carry out pipeline work in the state earlier this year.

“Our promise is to continue to work for safe communities, meeting our customers’ expectations that we deliver reliable gas service,” said Michele Kirkland, vice president of energy operations.

“These ongoing investments will improve our system’s reliability and help our communities grow by putting Michigan residents to work.”

The positions are being created as part of a planned $60 million investment in gas pipeline work this year. In 2014, that investment is expected to climb to $116 million.

Consumers Energy is actively promoting these available positions and information about these positions is available online at www.consumersenergy.com under the “Careers” tab.

Consumers Energy, Michigan’s largest utility, is the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, which provides natural gas and electricity.

Obviously they are getting some flack. A great group in the Ballenger & Flushing rd area is cleaning up properties. The land bank is getting off easy as they are only providing trash bags and pick up of the bags!

The 53 acres of Sugar Maple Farms is up for sale by the bank for $394,968. This is the property the city sold and issued building permits for without water and sewer service to the site. Located on Richfield near Center Road and the kearsley Golf Course, these are attractive building sites. They now have complete utilities.

FLINT, MI – Those interested in getting information, connecting with resources and networking on topics such as education, neighborhood development and blight elimination may want to sign up for the third annual economic empowerment summit.

The North Flint Reinvestment Corp. will host the summit from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 7 at Foss Avenue Baptist Church, 1159 E. Foss Ave.

This year’s theme is “partnering to empower families and neighborhoods,” and will feature U.S. Rep. Dan Kildee, D-Flint Township.

There will be early childhood education workshops that feature speakers from HighScope Educational Research Foundation, the Genesee Intermediate School District and Eagle’s Nest Academy, according to a statement.

Attendees also can attend community economic development workshops featuring Mayor Dayne Walling, officials from the Genesee County Land Bank, Genesee County Treasurer Deb Cherry and a representative from the Morgan Stanley investment firm.

ReginaldFlynn.jpgPastor Reginald Flynn

“We want to be certain that our people are equipped with vital information about and have a voice in blight elimination, demolition and land use options on the north side of Flint, especially in light of the $20 million in federal aid that is coming into local coffers for blight elimination,” the Rev. Reginald Flynn, president of the NFRC, said in a statement. “We also want to make an emphatic statement through this summit that there is a definite link between early childhood education and economic development.”

The summit costs $15 and includes breakfast, classes, resource materials and lunch, the statement said. Registration forms are online at northflintreinvestmentcorp.com. Call 787-9019 for more information.

FLINT, MI – Human resource representatives from the State of Michigan, Hurley Hospital, the Michigan Transportation Authority, Aerotek, Kroger and many more employers will be on hand Monday, Sept. 16, from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., as the Community 1st hosts its annual job fair.

According to Community 1st, in 2012, more than 400 job seekers attended the fair and the organization reported that many of those job seekers are now employed.

During that September 2012 fair, major employers such as the State of Michigan, FirstMerit – formerly known as Citizens Bank – and Hurley Hospital, the MTA, Kroger, McDonald’s and many more were all in attendance.

This year’s fair will take place at the Connecting with the Community and the Community Outreach for Family and Youth Center located at 1015 E. Carpenter Rd. in Flint.

The job fair is sponsored by the Spiritual Growth and Development Mentoring Program.

The group said that it encourages job seekers to bring their updated resume and references and to dress in business attire.

All employers who are currently looking to hire workers are also asked to attend the event at no cost. Job seekers should know that employers will be prepared for on-the-spot interviewing.
